Panthers working out Lestar Jean

Recommended Posts

The Texans were reportedly high on him at one point, but I guess the new regime is like GTFO.  He has some upside, but has been buried on the depth chart to a degree.  Would probably provide some solid depth.  I would think that We wouldn't sign both Jean and Underwood, but who knows.  We have a great experiment going on here, and competition is a great thing in our situation.  Perhaps one or both can make the 53.

Of course sometimes other teams' fans know best.  I guess the jury is still out

You do not want this guy on your team as anything more than the last string receiver. Alligator arms and drops everywhere. Don’t be fooled by his size/speed combo. He’s a preseason warrior who disappears when it matters.

Lester Jean is an upcoming star.

Would shine in the Panthers Offense.

heading into the 2012 season, gridironexperts.com named him #1 on their top ten fantasy football sleepers

1. Lestar Jean -WR, Houston Texans

Nicked name “Big Play” from his impressive OTA performance, Lestar Jean is sitting pretty on a depth chart that needs a playmaker to help relieve the pressure on Andre Johnson. Gary Kubiak is not yet ready to confirm that Lestar Jean has established himself as the Texans’ third receiver, yet third-round pick DeViey Posey is a work in progress and Keshawn Martin failed to stand out during OTA’s.

when it was his time to step up on the field, he didnt. they tried to get him to take over for Walter, but just couldnt beat him out. then the Texans drafted Nuk, and he beat both of them out.

i really hope the panthers are not putting all their eggs in the baskets of depth guys. WR early may not be the thing this FO wants.

Not exactly sure what we are doing with all the minor workouts.

We seem to be working out a lot of 4th, 5th, and 6th wide receivers but with McNutt and King on the roster do you really need to be working out players like Jean and Cone? I'll give Underwood a break because he could possibly be a solid four.

Gettlemen has told us.  He says we constantly have to churn the bottom of your roster.  That's how you find guys than can contribute even if it's in small ways.  Better practice players, better character guys, etc.  The smallest things can make a difference in the NFL where games are won and lost by the smallest of things.

IIRC, he looks very good in training camp/preseason and hardly sees the field during the regular season.

Last year the Texans offense became a dumpster fire, so I wouldn't take any stats during this timeframe (minus Andre's) as a players potential. And the Texans drafted DeAndre Hopkins #1 so LeStar/Posey/K.Johnson didn't get on the field as much.

Gotta give DG credit...the man over turns every rock to find players that few have ever heard of or know anything about. Either he is a talent guru or just using the cast net theory (see how many fish you can haul in and hope one or two are keepers). We will see what his strategies produce.

There was an article from last year about how Gettleman knows details about every single player in the league.  Like an encylopedia, you could ask about the third string CB on a random team and he could rattle off a scouting report on them.
