Panthers interested in DeSean Jackson for the right price...

I feel like Gettleman would rather keep that 3rd round draft pick over trading for a big-dollar WR like Jackson.  But I could be wrong...

I'd imagine he'd prefer the conservative route and building through he draft as well typically...  But, then I think he has to know it's highly unlikely that a 3rd rounder will come in and do what DJ can do immediately.  Second, wasn't Gettleman NYG's pro scout for several of DJ's unreal returns against them, including that epic comeback the Eagles had after he dropped the punt and returned it for the TD?

I'm sure that has an effect on his outlook in this situation.  Also, we still NEED speed there as-is.

The guy has a $12.75 million cap hit. Does anybody think that's actually going to work inside our structure right now? We'd be so far over the cap we wouldn't be able to sign our draft picks. MAYBE if we cut Godfrey and signed Hardy to an actual contract we MIGHT be able to fit him in somewhere.... but seriously? I doubt the first thing he wants to do with his new team is restructure for them.

not that it's a huge difference, but we would assume 10.5 this year, 9.75 next year and 8.25 in 2016, IF we made the trade and no renegotiating was made.

It's true that no 3rd rounder could come in and contribute what Jackson brings to the table immediately.  But his price tag is so high I think Gettleman would rather have that 3rd rounder on the cheap.  Trading for Jackson would be a "win-now" move and Gettleman made it clear he's building this team to be a consistent winner over short-term success.

It's just unequivocally not going to happen. I would love to see it as much as the rest of you guys, but realism has to take a place in here somewhere. We just can't do it in good conscience with the multitude of holes we have left to fill on this team. They'd probably be asking for our 2nd round pick at minimum considering that it's so close to a 3rd rounder they've been seeking. To give up a Top 64 pick for a cap headache doesn't seem like the way things are trending here right now. By cap hit, we're talking about the 5th most well-compensated player in the league among WR.

Agreed, but I don't see Jackson as purely a move for the present.  He still has a lot of prime football ahead of him.

Just cant see us giving up a 1 and a 2 or a 3 for him. I cant see how we can afford his contract at this time.

His cap hit is very large. Don't see this happening unless he would re due his contract.

Cap hit for

2014 is $12.750 Mil

2015 is $12.00 Mil

2016 is $10.00 Mil

Just saw a blurb from Philly.com from 4 hours ago that said it's likely the Eagles won't even get a 3rd rounder for him.

I think the cap hit is manageable, we'll have to make some moves though and hope the Eagles send some cash with him, which if that is the case, it likely means we would indeed give up the 3rd if the market has been set at a 4th currently.  And I have no problem with that.

And at a huge pricetag.  Unless he redid his deal to come to Carolina, this is a pipe dream.  I just hope he doesn't go to the 49ers.
