Panthers interested in DeSean Jackson for the right price...

I would be very disappointed if Gman traded for his contract.

What I would not mind, is for Gman to be in contact with his agent and working out a new contract if indeed he gets cut.  This might be the case if he and Cam are chums.

He is a handful and if Cam is a strong enough personality to keep him in check, and we get our own contract with him, then I am good.

We would have to get rid of someone most likely to make it happen.

This would possibly mean a Benjamin target for us in the first since we would have our #1 and #3, neither of which are very tall.

No No No No No No No No NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Do not get Desean Jackson if you are thinking about having him as the number one.

For the last time, Cam Newton needs, his skill set requires, big, tall, physical WRs.

Just NO!

uhh his skill set did fine without one for three years. he set rookie passing records throwing to a midget number one all season.

big tall targets are great in the red zone (and it may appear we just nabbed one in cotchery) but it's a popular myth that cam needs a kareem abdul jabar to succeed between the 20s. desean jackson would make an outstanding number one receiver and cam would probably put up the best numbers of his career.

Even Megatron had less than 50 catches, less than 800 years, and 4 TDs as a rookie, so the best possible scenario, Benjamin, should not be expected to do more than that.

I just have a personal preference for Brandon Marshall, Andre Johnson, and Boldins of the NFL.If we are going to pay someone Jackson's salary and make him number one WR, he needs to closer to the mold of a Boldin.

Cam Newton is talented/skilled/accurate enough to play with a midget WR and Jackson is the most talented of said midget WRs in the NFL. He and Jackson would be a great combo. Even a pro bowl combo. It doesn't mean it is smart to go out spend that kind of resources for him.

If we are going to really trade for Jackson, I would rather use the resources to trade up to draft Mike Evans instead.

And BTW, I love Jackson...just not as my No. 1 on a team with super bowl aspirations.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
