Panthers interested in Antoine Cason (edit)

And if he were not declining and said himself that he wasn't a number 1 receiver that argument might have legs.  The reality is his cap space for us was 7 million rising to 10 million next year and 12 the year after while his skills are diminishing. That is number 1 money not number 3 money. Plus we really don't use a slot receiver like many teams do so there was little value in keeping him.  His cap for Baltimore will be half what it is here, so he is still a deal for them.  That is how the cap works and why guys get released all the time.

The young receivers don't have to be better as long as they are much cheaper.  That makes them a much better value which is the point.

the argument has legs universally that 35 is just a number, it is not a reason. Decline for one year is not a trend. The reality this was not about money or his age. It was about SS the man and G-man  who doesn't like that man. This was personal. If not, a deal would have been offered and taken. The fact no offer was made shows it was not the money. It probably is a mutual dislike so it was not as bad as it could have been on Smith.

Value doesn't get yards and TD's it also doesn't improve the team so in essence you are saying it doesn't matter if we get better as long as the "value" is there? I say that whoever the WR corp was, was locked into the "decline" by the offense we ran last season. This will be more of the same or less.So yes they do have to be better that what the whole point is , getting better. We will lose that window of improvement when we sign Cam and Luke longterm and we will be thrust into this perpetual bargain basement approach for the length of those contracts.Since we are on that path of constant re-tooling keeping Smith for the year or two more he will play would've been the smart play on all facets of this issue.

I'd rather we spend money on another WR. I trust our D as is. We don't need Cason.

I disagree the D is what makes us the team we are right now and to get the secondary squared away is more important. As the D goes so go the Panthers. We need someone who can cover when the front 7 is ineffective.

It isn't me saying he is declining, Smitty has said he is declining which is the same as when he said he isn't a number 1 anymore.  So why keep arguing when he himself has said he is declining although he thinks he has a few years left.

Value is what we pay for what we get.  Gettleman has said he isn't worth number 1 money which is what his contract would pay him.  So we cut him.  You can feel free to argue until the cows come home that we should have kept him but we didn't.  So whether you get in the last word and keep arguing all day and night, it won't bring him back or change the reality so why not let it go?

He was great, he is gone until he signs a 1 day contract to come back and retire a Panther.  Get back with me at the end of the year and we can look at his numbers and decide if letting him go was a good or bad idea.  Until them you are Don Quixote chasing windmills.

they didn't make any other offer so that is not really valid. they ( G-man) wanted him gone. There is a difference b/t not being a # 1 and not offering anything. Nothing on this board changes anything so why only use that excuse on this issue? why only apply it to my post? everyone here tilts at windmills. that is what this forum is for to express your opinions on these matters.

the point now is the question of G-man and how he does business. the legend is he is all business but the way it went down with SS was personal so the trust issue is a big question mark.It is more than just losing Smith it is blind allegiance. I will point out the wrongness of the Smith issue everytime it comes up.I did not get with you on this matter to begin with so I will not get back to you later.Comment as you like just as I will.

You were not in the room when they talked nor do you know what was said behind closed doors so forgive me if I give your opinion no weight.  What you have read or heard is what is being displayed for public consumption or rumors and innuendo.  Have you ever heard the saying, beleive 1/10 of what you hear and only half of what you actually see.  I have been around long enough to know that reporters, newspapers, and even second hand accounts are not to be taken seriously.

Unless they prove my point and then they are 100% correct!!!!   Am I right????
