Lets be honest the only bad move Getts has made is releasing Smitty

And its not because I'm against releasing the best player in franchise history, but because there is no one better on the roster and the cap relief is minimal. Other than that, what has Getts done wrong? For years huddlers complained about the asinine contracts Hurney gave out, now fans are mad when we don't break the bank for players who aren't worth what they are getting paid when they are simply role players. Guys like Mitchell, Ginn, Munnerlyn are role players, they can be replaced. Paying guys like that aren't getting us out of cap hell. You must also look at the contracts ahead of Getts in Cam, Kuech, and Star. Getts is making the tough and right decisions like it or not.

this is exactly what I've been saying this entire time!!! No one is concerned about the loss of all those other guys! We were never gonna be able to pay them & they are all replaceable anyway. The Smith loss is sure to hurt them no matter who else they bring in to replace him. Still don't see how it didn't make MORE sense to them to keep him for atleast another yr to show whoever the new guys were the ropes. I also think them releasing him has driven a lot of the FAs away. Ppl wanna come & play w/ a guy like smith.

we need to sign and trade Hardy. plain and simple. or deal cj. teams can not be paying both DE's that kind of money.

you have one on a big contract and draft the bookend. rinse and repeat.

Yes.  We should always have one stud DE on a second contract and a player on a 4-year rookie deal.  That is the only way to afford DEs.

I didn't like it because I thought Alexander and Addison could fill in and we could (maybe) draft a player to groom. However, I would like to add to your opinion by saying, it would be worse (in my opinion) to lock him into a long-term deal before the season begins. The reason? You don't buy stock at its highest point. I am guessing Hardy does not get 15 sacks this year. If he does, pay the man and (maybe) Johnson's deal is at a point where it can be adjusted. If he does not, negotiate a more reasonable contract or let him walk.

I would rather have 3-4 free agents than one Hardy, but that is me. Gettlemen is from the Giants where they appreciated their pass rushers.

To me, only a QB is worth $13million.

That would be the worst fuging move ever. To weaken your team for a 1 year rental is the stupidest poo DG could ever do. Now that he has made this decision to tag Hardy he has to get a long term deal done. Plain and simple.

If I had to pick between a better defense or offense I would go defense which is what we are doing. We have time left in free agency and the draft to fill these needs.

I like that DG isnt going all out for just next year but planning long term instead.

I have never been as excited for the draft as I am this year.

But he is not going to pay premium $$ for a long-term deal, but you could be right.  I state things as opinions, because I know that I do not have all of the details. I give reasons for my opinions--you say things like "stupid poo."  Can you say that you have all of the answers?  You seem to think you do.

You people have no tough skin. Deal with the decisions made and move on. It's not like you have any control over what is going on, or what is going to happen. I trust DG, because he knows a heck of a lot more about how to run a football team than most of you arm chair coaches on this forum.

It doesn't matter now. When he tagged him he either needed to trade him or lock him up long term. You can't rent a player for 1 year (while letting other players walk) and expect that to be looked at as a smart move.

That would be the dumbest poo a GM could do. Weaken your team to rent a player for a year? That would be a Matt Millen type move.

That 13 million from Hardy could have been used to sign Mitchell, Ginn, and brought in Collins. That's at least 3 spots solidified on the team.

But now that he tagged Hardy you've made the decision he is more important to keep then improving other parts of the team. So you are forced to make sure he is on your team for the long term.

Realistically no one can say whether cutting Steve Smith was a good or bad move yet. Not until the season has been played.

disagree.. right now it is a bad move.. very bad.. the press has been all over it bating Smith into trashing us (which he hasn't and taken the high road, thank god) but it also has shown other FAs that Carolina will "do you dirty".. "if that's what they do to the franchise's savior, what will they do to me!?!"

this move could look better over time, but as of right now- it get a big black fuggin X over it with blood dripping down the sides

You can't even use the excuse that the team is "cap strapped" and needs a "step back year" for the future. If you let Hardy leave for nothing and rent his services for a year. You've pretty much contradicted your whole plan.

Cutting Smitty was the correct decision, business-wise (that's why Gettleman's here). He does have to do something about the Godfrey situation (but is it possible, I don't think Godfrey has been cleared medically yet), and the Hardy situation. If those two situations could be handled, we should have a bit wiggle room with the cap to bring in some quality bodies.

We have to be patient, I get that, but looking at twitter and other social media, Panther fans really could use some good news soon.

it was personal.it will always be personal and that is why it is such crap to extoll the business virtues of g-man.
