Text from my aunt after talking with TD's wife

Im sure Luke being mad, is mad at more than just Smith. More people aren't here anymore than just him. He was tight with Gross too

I mean think about it. Luke is not from Charlotte. Not many peeps outside of the QC know about the Panthers. He's drafted, reads some poo about us so he can impress the bosses on day one, balls out for a team that is trying to win, then after year two loses a poo-ton of teammates. It's a hard reality to swallow. You think 12-4 is good? Then your GM is stuck in line at the Ponderosa bitching about them being out of fried okra while the NFCS gets better. Why wouldn't Luke be mad? His boys are probably busting his balls like "LOL what is your sorry ass franchise doing bro?"

Honestly, I'd never seen someone that was seemingly so respected in and out of the lockerroom get completely dropped from a team the way Smith was before.  Makes me think that he and Gettleman (or the coaches) may have had some issues with him we don't know about.

Yeah I've brought that up before.  There's so much that goes on behind closed doors that it's impossible to do anything other then speculate.

There had to be a catalyst that started the Smitty thing.  I've said before that I think it's a money thing.  I don't think Smith would go anywhere else if he got offered an extra million......but 5 million?

Classic 12 yo's quote.

"Gettlehugger"? Dear god boy.

It's funny that the people who think "Gettlehugger" is silly, are the same ones who have no problem throwing out the insult "Camhugger". Or they're the same ones who will attack someone who they believe is going the extra yard to defend Cam. Both terms are silly, but calling a spade a spade.

Anyways, I'm not shocked with TDs reaction or Luke's. They've gotta be wondering, just like most of us, what the hell are the panthers doing?

The reason it is concerning, as I speculated elsewhere, is that it showed an absolute lack of respect for a league-wide respected player. I asked before, if he handled Smitty the way he did, what do potential FAs and prospects think he'll do to them. Smitty was the face of our franchise, and as Deion likes to say,"a flat out dawg." He was the Panthers for years... even when you get a Cam and Luke, you treat that guy with the respect he deserves. Give him a chance to restructure or retire. If not, you let him walk out with his head up. Give him a press conference.

Everyone wants to call it whining or being butthurt, but it's facts. It wasn't just mishandled, it was malicious and deliberate acts by Gettleman to undercut Smitty. It's not about hate, it's about respect, and that's what has left many so sour. You don't do what Gettleman did to Smitty, and players take notice.

It also leads one to believe that lockerroom talk is bullshit. Steve Smith is here over a decade and you have one dinosaur of a gm come in for a few months and decide that he's a problem.

I'm starting to believe the problem is that Gettlemam just wants "his guys" on the field. He couldn't justify it while Smitty was still on the roster, so wipe it clean and now they have to play.

Not sure why Luke would be mad at the team over Gross's decision to retire?
