The reason it is concerning, as I speculated elsewhere, is that it showed an absolute lack of respect for a league-wide respected player. I asked before, if he handled Smitty the way he did, what do potential FAs and prospects think he'll do to them. Smitty was the face of our franchise, and as Deion likes to say,"a flat out dawg." He was the Panthers for years... even when you get a Cam and Luke, you treat that guy with the respect he deserves. Give him a chance to restructure or retire. If not, you let him walk out with his head up. Give him a press conference.

Everyone wants to call it whining or being butthurt, but it's facts. It wasn't just mishandled, it was malicious and deliberate acts by Gettleman to undercut Smitty. It's not about hate, it's about respect, and that's what has left many so sour. You don't do what Gettleman did to Smitty, and players take notice.

I love Smitty but god damn he had 69 yards as his best receiving performance last year and was due 10 mill next year and 12 mill the year after that. Who is terrified by this news.

How does she know TD's wife? I'm not doubting you and it's easy to imagine players not reacting well to Smitty getting cut, but this seems like an over reaction or your dear aunt is exaggerating just a little bit. If Kuechly really did react this way then I hope someone takes the time to explain to him that Smitty was cut in large part to make room for him to become one of the leaders of this team. We all love Smitty and his release was handled really poorly, but it was the right move... we all know Smitty was never going to take a back seat to these young guys and defer to their leadership, that's just not in his DNA and it's the very same quality that made him such a fierce competitor. I can't remember who said this but it was a very well respected former GM who said "when the highest paid guys on your team are not the leaders, you have a problem". Cam is about to become the highest paid player on this team, so we were about to have a problem and very soon Luke will become the 2nd highest paid player on this team.... Also, interesting SCP had this convo following TD's "there goes that" comment on instagram after Nicks signed elsewhere. Fans are justified to be angry and feel let down... even the players are showing their frustration. No one has any answers. Yes, it's reasonable to wait and see what happens once all moves are made, but right now, in the present, none of it makes sense and nothing seems to foreshadow what we'll do to make it make sense.

Considering this org carried Davis through 3 ACL injuries I hope he could add a little perspective for Keek.

I wonder how the players would have felt had we let Hardy walk out the door instead of some of the others because that's what happens when a small percentage of the players hog a large percentage of the cap space. 59 will be part of that group soon enough. You think he and his agent aren't going to demand as much as they can. They all want to distance themselves from what it means to others when it's their time to cash in. Let me know when player A decides to take a 50-80% discount so player B can stay for the betterment of the team.

 

This ain't the same organization that carried TD through 3 ACL injuries.  I guarandamntee you if Gettleman was the GM back then TD's ass woulda been cut before his cart hit the locker room when he tore it the first time (yes, hyperbole I know).  TD has no insight or perspective into the workings of Gettleman's Panthers.  He's probably just as clueless as Kuechly and the rest of the players.

Im sure Luke being mad, is mad at more than just Smith. More people aren't here anymore than just him. He was tight with Gross too
