CB Antoine Cason

El Chingon

Recommended Posts

Free agent CB Antoine Cason will visit the Panthers.

The ex-Charger played only 169 defensive snaps for the Cardinals last season, struggling in coverage. He's still only 27, however, and just one year removed from being a 16-game starter. Cason would be a sensible, cheap flier for a team with a beastly front seven that takes pressure off its secondary. Mar 18 - 8:01 PM

Posted this is the Thomas thread but oh well

From last year...

Long and lean at 6-foot-1, 195 pounds, Cason is a good fit for DC Todd Bowles' preferred press coverage. Although he's started each of the past three seasons, Cason could be coming to town as the Cardinals' No. 3 corner after they gave Jerraud Powers a three-year, $10.5 million deal. Cason's size could land him on the outside when Powers moves to the slot in nickel packages. Cason is coming off a year where he notched 73 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles, but graded out as the sixth worst cornerback in Pro Football Focus' ratings.

Behind this front seven as a slot guy? I think it's a reasonable signing.

I agree the value of most corners could be upgraded behind our front seven, just look at Captain. A secondary of

CB: Terrell Thomas

SS: Roman Harper

FS: Charles Godfrey

CB: Melvin White

Nickel: Antoine Cason

Third Safety: Robert Lester

would not make me feel very comfortable. Might be able to get by during the season, but look what happened in the playoffs.

I would be perfectly fine with that secondary going into the draft
