Cam having ankle surgery tomorrow: Breaking news

Just read about the WFNZ thing about how the story broke. Yep, that nurse is legitimately going to be fired. Clear, obvious violation of HIPAA.

Yep. We know we can't do that. She was definitely in the wrong, but boy is she going to annihilate her husband.

I think I've come to a painful realization. We are the Cavaliers of the NFL. Cam is the LeBron of football and we are the Cavaliers failing to put anything around him to succeed. And we all know how that story ends

I am not saying the above link is what Cam is having done but based on the report that it's to "tighten up ligaments" and the 4 month recovery window this would make sense.  Basically he sprained the ankle a few times or for some other reason his ligaments in his ankle have stretched out and when they healed didn't heal back tight.   So, the patient feels like his ankle isn't stable which in fact it isn't and would be more prone to roll and injury further.

1) The preferred is an anatomic reconstruction, in which the stretched or torn ligaments is repaired and allowed to heal in a shorten position. This reconstruction can be accomplished by using the patient’s own tissue, also known as a Broström procedure, or utilize a cadaver tendon, also called an allograft, if the patient’s own tissue is too stretched out or different. For added stability and to help prevent re-injury, the surgeon may also tighten the retinaculum, a band of fibrous tissue that helps hold the ankle in proper alignment.

Make of it what you will.  Just a part of being a professional NFL players.

Most of the time with any injury surgery should be a last resort.  The best case is the body healing itself.  That is probably the case with Cam.  It's something that could have healed on it's own but didn't so while there is still time go ahead and do the surgery.

sounds like it. per the Charlotte Observer: "According to a team spokesman, the ligaments in the ankle had been stretched out, and the procedure will tighten them."

I wouldn't say that arguably the best front 7 in the league on D is failing to put anything around him.

Cam understands that football is about more than the offense.

This has been the worst offseason in Panthers history.

This is why it was important to keep our D together.  Our D will actually be better then last years.  Thank God we've been able to keep the D together through this mass offensive exodus.  It might take a season to get the offense retooled....it is absolutely imperative we keep it together until our offense is fixed in 2015.

As long as we got that D and find some sort of production on the Oline....we'll still have a chance to win some games.  We're not winning the Superbowl....but hopefully we can win more then we lose....and at this point that's all I care about.

here is a doctor explaining how he does the surgery. Says he detaches both lateral (outside) ankle ligaments from the bone, trims them down, then weaves stitches into them that he ties through holes he drills through the bone where the shortened ligaments are sewn to the bone to re-attach them. He says cast for 1 month, then ankle brace for 1-2 months, and swelling for 4 months. Says "You should be able to regain full strength and power in the leg, and have no restriction of motion."

But this other doctor writes "No type of lateral ankle ligament repair restored normal motion to the foot and ankle. This is a huge problem for patients considering ankle ligament surgery and repair"

he cites this study saying the same:

What is the point of all this? Worrying about things we as fans can't control? Cam will be fine.
