Any interest in former Bears WR Earl Bennett?

The Bucs then met Tuesday with former University of Florida wide receiver Louis Murphy, and there is a chance they will take a look at former Chicago Bears wideout Earl Bennett.

A 2008 third-round pick by the Bears — who were being coached by Smith at the time — Bennett was let go by Chicago on Monday and could be a slot option for Tampa Bay.

The moment I heard that the Bears were going to approach Bennett regarding reducing his pay (after he did so last season), I knew he wouldn't be a Bear much longer and I immediately thought he would be a good fit with the Panthers.  He has great hands and good speed.  Regarding him not taking a pay cut with the Bears and summarily getting cut, I would think the Panthers could scoop him up on the relatively cheap (his salary was only going to be around $3 million, I think).  I don't believe there are any rules that once a player is cut that an offering team has to match the contract figure from his last contract...

He'll be a lot better option available than most of the retreads that are likely to be on the scrapheap...

He's going to do what Smitty did.  Take his back end money and sign somewhere else cheaper and make more money.

I think the point is to try and get better than what we had. But by all means continue the high and mighty tour.

Exactly!  The point is to get better.  I fail to see how signing Bennett would not be a means to that end.  But whatever, I guess.  Don't understand the "high and mighty tour" stuff.  I was only giving an opinion on a player that I'm pretty familiar with and thought could be a value-add for the Panthers.

You offered an opinion I disagreed then you got snarky. Hence my response to that. I don't think Bennett makes us better. It's an idea but even Getts hasn't barked up that tree so I feel confident in my assessment.
