Better Know a Prospect - Jared Abbrederis

Jets blogger:

"Abbrederis would be an interesting 2nd/3rd round choice. This kid clearly has talent. Jared has terrific hands. He uses them to catch the football like a pro, he doesn’t let the ball into his body like Stephen Hill does. He also runs excellent routes, it’s visible on the tape that he gets consistent separation and can turn cornerbacks the wrong way. He also can go get the ball at its highest point."

NFL writer:

"Some will say Abbrederis is 'sneaky' quick or

'deceptively' fast. They’re sugar coating it. While

not an insanely explosive athlete, he’s just

simply a fast wide receiver. With that said,

there’s more than just his speed to Abbrederis’

game. Let’s break down his strengths and

weaknesses and assess where he might go in

the 2014 NFL Draft :

Weaknesses: Very good athlete, but not a blue chip athlete at the next level in size or strength.

Strengths: He’s fast. Plain and simple. He's quick in the open field. He is a solid deep ball receiver. His hips are very fluid, he has a nice wiggle to him. His hands are extremely reliable. He tracks the ball very well and can adjust on the fly to take proper angle on the ball. He has the size and leaping ability to win jump balls. He is a very nice route-runner. His understanding of routes and timing helps him create ideal separation. He is clean in his cuts and doesn’t round routes off. He utilizes fakes and hesitation beautifully. He does a good job putting himself between the defender and the ball. He fights for the ball and comes back to the ball consistently. He displays excellent vision in the open field. He follows blocks very well, he doesn’t dance too much and properly utilizes his cuts.

Summary: Despite what some will say about Abbrederis, he’s actually a heck of a talent for the NFL level...he has natural talent and skills....He’s fast, has sure hands, runs great routes and can make plays. Add his scheme versatility, and there’s little not to love. That being said, he’s not a blue chip athlete at the next level, so he’s not a first round pick. A team could fall in love with just how flat-out solid he is and pick him as high as round two, however.

Draft Range: 2nd-3rd round

NFL Player Comparison : Eric Decker
