Better Know a Prospect - Jared Abbrederis

Great word to describe Abbrederis.  He is a student of the game and runs some of the best routes of any WR in this draft.  Guy just flat out gets open and makes plays.

I would LOVE to get him in this draft.

That is what we need is a guy that can get open and catch the ball consistently.

he became the first Wisconsin wide receiver to earn first-team all-Big Ten honors in consecutive seasons since Al Toon in 1983 and 1984.

Dec 9, 2013: "With one game remaining in his career, Abbrederis’ 3,110 career receiving yards rank him ninth in Big Ten history and second in Wisconsin history"

NFL.com:

Abbrederis lit the Buckeyes' secondary up for 10 catches for 207 yards and a touchdown last September, while being covered by projected 1st R CB Bradley Roby

Chris Beatty, Abbrederis' position coach at Wisconsin:

"Roby is a great player. Jared made him look average on that day.

"I mean, the guy couldn't keep up with him," Beatty said, adding that Abbrederis "double-moved him to death" in their September meeting.

Beatty said several NFL scouts and coaches have told him Abbrederis is one of the best route runners in this year's draft.

"He's one of those guys who pays attention to every little thing in the meeting," Beatty said.

"He's a film guy, and he's been in a pro-style offense for four years, five years. He knows what those routes look like -- he's run them over and over...where sometimes the spread-offense guys (Latimer, Moncrief, etc) don't have that background."

NFP rates him 3rd R and gives him the same grade as Donte Moncrief, Jarvis Landry, and Bruce Ellington

"There is a lot to like about Abbrederis' game... good overall speed and athleticism. ... he has quick feet and very good overall body control... He has a good release and...gets into his routes quickly and can break down and get in and out of cuts quickly to gain separation. He is very good with double moves and multi-cut routes. Abbrederis is consistent as both a short and deep receiver. He catches the ball in his hands and shows he can adjust to make the difficult catch. On longer routes, he shows deceptive speed and has a burst to the ball. After the catch, he is a good runner with instincts ... He is very willing as a blocker

...

He should be able to play either X or Z at the next level. I see him coming into the league and being a third or fourth receiver who will develop into a starter by his second year."

Giants blogger:

Does Abbrederis Fit With The Giants?

Sure does. He's more or less a clone of Victor Cruz in my eyes. He was the main weapon of that Wisconsin passing attack and so was routinely up against the best cornerbacks from the opposing team and had good games against all of them. He's no Sammy Watkins and is likely only a No. 2 wide receiver (though I must admit he's got some upside to maybe be a No. 1) at the next level

This guy just knows how to get open. Like Cruz, he can be a slot receiver as well as a deep threat but most of his money will be made as a chain-moving intermediate route running specialist. He's certainly a worthwhile pickup because he absolutely has the ability to maybe become a No. 1 type receiver

...

he's a perfect candidate to pick up as he is more or less a perfect fit for any offense. You just don't find college wide receivers THIS good at running routes, so Abbrederis certainly is one of a kind.

...

He is Absolutely SPECIAL as a route runner. Gets in and out of cuts precisely and has beautiful moves. Lots of wiggle and can make people miss for good YAC. Sure handed. Unafraid of going over the middle and will routinely fight others for the ball. A competitor.

Pete Fiutak of Scout.com/CollegeFootballNews:

"This isn’t an exaggeration in any way – there might not be more valuable player in the Big Ten than senior Jared Abbrederis, mainly because the other targets aren't there for Wisconsin. ... when he was out, the passing game had absolutely nothing. ... the Badger offense died with opponents loading up everyone to stop the run.

...

Abbrederis is a deep threat ... he’s a big-play performer ... he’s tough, athletic and fast. The former walk-on was an all-star high school quarterbacks and track star setting the Wisconsin state record in the 110-meter high hurdles while winning the state title in the 300-meter hurdles.

...

Abbrederis is an All-Big Ten talent and will be earning an NFL paycheck next year at this time, but the Badgers need someone else to help the cause. When Abbrederis was banged up or was taken away, no one else was able to make defenses pay."
