Now the FA WRs have leverage...Bump that!

OK, all of a sudden now the virtual dregs of the FA WRs have leverage. Britt has leverage. Cotchery has leverage.

PFT:

With the Panthers losing their top three wide receivers from 2013 and other viable options (Hakeem NicksJames Jones) landing elsewhere, Carolina suddenly has interest in the eventually-to-be-former Titan.  And Britt has leverage.

Observer:

Cotchery will have a lot more leverage than he did when he set up the visit.

Don't get me wrong, I would welcome either WR at this point, but if I were G-man, it would be business as usual.  I would not overpay for some marginal guys.  I mean Cotchery has been solid and all that, and his veteran presence and solid career may mean paying a bit more than the other guys, but I really can't see him being worth more than around two mil per year.  And I absolutely detest the idea of letting Kenny Britt come and hold me over a barrel for pay that he doesn't really deserve.  He's lucky to even be getting some consideration in my eyes. He could do worse than come here and compete for a starting spot with Cam Newton chucking him the ball.

Is it just me, or are these writers just off the mark and don't realize that Gettleman won't sacrifice his big picture just because the market is down to slender pickings?

Next we will be reading how Manningham has leverage. Santonio Holmes has leverage. Sidney Rice has leverage.  Mr. Hammy (a.k.a., Miles Austin) has leverage.

Yeah, right.

I am going to trust that G-man is going to be G-man. We have the leverage. Let the ungrateful go somewhere else if they want to get "froggy" and try to flip the script,  and draft some rookies.

It isn't like Gettleman has overpaid for any other receiver and he has let a bunch walk.  I doubt he suddenly gets desperate and overpays for anyone left.  Truth is that they only have leverage if we give it to them and Gettleman doesn't appear the type to back down in a game of chicken.  If they hold out for more money they will be going elsewhere.

Nicks had leverage and went elsewhere. Jones had leverage and went elsewhere. If we keep playing "hardball" all offseason, we may end up hearing about how Armanti Edwards has leverage over us come summer.

just curious, do you think Nicks would have been worth 4.5-5.5mil of the leftover 8mil we have?

or Jones costing 3.7 of that 8?

Who would we sign out of the available FA to be our #1 receiver for $2 million a year or less?

We're already at bargain prices here man. Lafell even got $11 million.
