Why should he be mad at us.  We were used as a vehicle to make a lot more money.

Your delusional man. Steve did not mastermind this whole situation. He got pissed at a perceived snub by Gettleman. Now you can argue if he took those comments the wrong way. But he did not orchestrate his release. IF he was trying to do that the best way would have been to bash Rivera, Cam, etc. He's handled this better than most players would. I really don't know what your smoking but I will be back in Charlotte next week so save me some of that poo

Steve would've picked getting cut anyway. He's making more money.

He said they never asked him to "restructure," but not a pay cut. Some careful wording there.

He would've made $4m this year with us, but now he gets $3m from us anyway + signing bonus and salary from Baltimore.

Over taking a paycut? That's contrary to everything he and his agent said. The Panthers never gave him the option. He's said all last year that at this point its not about the money.

His agent said "restructure." Meaning take less this year and pile on even more guaranteed money in the following years. In the end restructuring would've given him even more money.

Steve stated numerous times last year he would not take a pay cut.

Did you see anything from the Panthers or Gettleman saying that they asked him to? Everything Gettleman has said is that it wasn't about money. I'm not arguing the move, at this point it's done. But saying that Steve orchestrated the cut and then just "acted" upset with Gettleman and yet gracious towards the city, team and the fans as a PR move is just silly. And that's what Maul said in this thread and another. So that's what I'm saying sounds paranoid. There's no evidence of any of that

It's always about money. Gross was asked/forced to take the pay cut or be cut. I think that this was a similar situation, but with another outcome.

They would have welcomed Gross back at a decent cost.

They were ready to part with 89....even not a reasonable price tag most likely

A paycut is the same as restructuring, except it doesn't move the money back in time, it just takes it away. A restructure could also mean getting rid of the option of picking up the next two years. A paycut and restructure aren't completely different things; a paycut is a type of restructure. Nobody here seems to understand that.

Pay cuts and restructures are NOT the same. Restructuring just transfers base salary into a signing bonus, meaning they get more up front and less per game. Pretty much any player would voluntarily restructure, but while it frees up room in the short-term it hurts teams long-term.

Sure, there can be other elements, but typically "restructure" means getting more up front instead of later. Whereas a pay cut is much less appealing.
