Anybody who isn't even slightly worried, or concerned about our wr core is an idiot or a complete blind faith homer.

I think things will sort themselves out but I'm anxious still about what we will do THIS year

It's unfair to Cam but that's the way things have played out that allows us to retain cam and keek for the next 10 years

I think you've overstated your first point, but yes, I agree with your post overall.

Personally, I do think we may take a step back this year, but it may be a necessary evil to achieve long-term success.

Edit: meant to go to rum.

I agree. I just think it won't be that hard to replace the production that we had from the WR position last season. If we can match that production, I don't see us taking a step back. At this particular moment in our franchise, we are a defensive team and pretty damn good at it. Not only with talent up front, but we have excellent defensive coaches.

When our shitty WR core is coupled with our conservative offense, and a very good defense, its not the end of the world. Like I said, if we can match the production of our WRs (who couldn't out perform our TE), we should be just as well off as last season.

That said, Cam needs a #1, and we could very well get on in the draft. If the WRs look the way they do now heading into training, you bet I'll be worried. But no worries in march.

Plenty of examples from last year where rookie wr's put up similar or better numbers then Smith. I think like 10+ with 4 or more td's and like 7 with more catches and yards.

Only two wide receivers had more yards than Smith and five wide receivers had 4 or more td's.

This "hey man did you know we had the worst receivers ever in 2013, I tell ya!" talk is getting beyond silly. Those same receivers plus Louis Murphy instead of Ted Ginn were a part of the 12th ranked offense in 2012.

Mike Shula.

Don't know if it's already been posted since there are so many damn threads on what GMs plan is.

Could it be possible that all of this is to determine IF Cam is a franchise QB?

2 offensive locker room leaders are gone now in Gross and Smitty, leaving Cam to take charge.

He's going to have a crap - mediocre WR corpes, so his QB skills are going to be judged much closer.

Just thinking that before he signs cam to a Flacco/Manning/Brees/Brady type of contract, he wants to see what Cam's really got. Maybe this really is all about determining if Cam is worth 6 yrs/125 mil.

It's not fair to Cam. No other GM would do that.

So putting the worst supporting cast around a QB in the NFL.....is how you test to see if a young QB is franchise material?

Cam has practically has to put the offense on his back every season thus far of his career.

We are doing the polar opposite of how teams develop young franchise QBs. In fact, I would argue we have followed the blueprint for how you ruin a young QB and make him fail......Cam simply is so talented he has held up....at least to date

All those QBs didn't become who they were with poo around them.
