Why Blame Gettleman?

I don't.

the teams that have major cap issues are either

1. fuged/ poorly run

2. trying to win a superbowl because their window is now.

Name all of the teams with Cap issues right now for me (even if that is off the top of your head)

Now name the teams who don't have cap issues because they will be either

1. A shitty, shitty team who doesn't sign players to big contracts because they don't draft well (raiders)

2. a perennial contender (49ers, Seahawks)

I don't have the time to look that up so we can just agree to disagree

I would rather take a step back then be a perennial one and out team (or perhaps no playoffs for years). We didn't have the horses on offense or the secondary to really be a force in the playoffs....face facts. We need another year at least to retool and be a viable superbowl team.We where not runming on all cylinders last year but will be in the near future.

agreed

<short rant incoming>

it stings but feels right.  getts master plan might need a yr or two(heck maybe 3 or 4) to come to fruition but damn it hurts and we as fans use this board as an outlet for the roller coaster feels of the season.

there is nothing we can do but vent, some take longer to come around, some my never and some just dont care. ultimately, this place is our dart board and all we do is throw meaningless points at a virtual board just to see who can get the best score. all of which do not matter in the panthers grand sceme.  this place is pure entertainment...and my favorite site ...next to xhamster and stumbleupon of course.

I think it was for the best. I think what we saw last season was the best that team could have done. It was obvious in the playoff game that they weren't quite ready for prime time. If we had wasted a lot if cap space resigning Mitchell, Ginn. Lafell, and Munnerlyn, we couldn't expect more than another early playoff loss.

So because your team doesn't win the Super Bowl you just neglect their success tear them apart and start over? You're crazy if you think Gettleman just let those guys walk. Instead of signing them he allowed them to test the market and it backfired on him. Turns out teams are willing to pay more for his players than he thought.

And how is the bandaid ripped off, if your only hop at this point is to bring in 30 something year old WRs? If that ain't a bandaid what is?

Ok then look at the teams signing big right now.

Do they suck? Or is their window for a Super Bowl now

Cam ain't getting any younger and soon he's going to count a whole lot more against your cap. The time to win is when your best player isn't your highest paid. We all saw the San Fran game and some of us were there. We dominated the first half of that game no matter what the score said. We had some bad calls and the players lost their composure, but we belonged in that moment.

Do you not think we could have beaten Seattle? What determines when your window to win a Super Bowl is? You should be trying to win one every year and we had the look of a team that just needed to continue to grow together and get it done. Mitchell, Munnerlyn, Ginn, and Lafell, these guys aren't old. They are the type you keep around, they didn't have to be band aids.

The problem is he tagged Hardy betting he could replace those guys with the same talent, as of today he's yet to do that. He still has time, but it's debatable if the guys left in FA are actually upgrades.

The goal is to strive for excellence and get better. If your idea of excellence is Ted Ginn Jr and Captain Munnerlyn, then yes, you obviously have low expectations. Last year was good enough for you. You should retire as a fan having accomplished your goal. Last season wasn't good enough for me, nor was it for our GM. Thankfully.

You show me the upgrades. As of right now are we a better team than last year?

Just because Hurney has made mistakes, doesn't mean Gettleman should get a pass for adding his own mistakes into the mix. Hurney put him in bad situation cap wise, but also left him with an outstanding core group of players. A group of players that have proven they can win now, looking at last year.

Gettleman's job is to fix the cap without crippling the franchise in the process, that's what he's going to be judged on going forward. Let's stop blaming Hurney for everything because we aren't the only team with cap problems, yet other GMs still manage to get under their cap and still remain competitive.

Gettleman did that last year, and it's time to see if he can do it again this year. If we take a step back, and I'm not talking record, I'm talking competitiveness. I'm talking playoffs, if we take a step back and don't make the playoffs, then that's on Gettleman not Hurney.

Lmao! Outstanding core.....omg you are funny! Offense had 3 and 1 retired! Now 2! Defense at best 4 and didn't even come alive until someone had enough balls to double dip at a position that made our D come alive!

If you say Steve Smith was a core player then you need to get slapped into reality. 2008 was 6 years ago! He admitted he wasn't a no.1 WR and no.1's are the core

Gettleman, your savior has made numerous comments on how good the "core" is. Go ahead name the core players on the panthers.

I think DG has done a good job, he may need to work on is media skills though last year cam, this year smitty but then again he hasn't been in the spotlight before handling gm type questions and having his every move and decision scrutinized,, he's limited with what he can do I'm not sure why people cannot see that? I mean contracts numbers etc are all outhere for all to see, we simply aren't in a financial position to do what most fans expect, we also have key areas that need addressing but how do you do it with no money lol, the draft is how you build your team and FA is to fill holes, unfortunately gross retires and DG seems it the right time to move on from smitty so it's an extra two holes to fill but they would need to be adressed at some point so why not now? People really need to give this guy a break he's doing a good job so far.

Are we a better team now than we were at this same point last year?

Just like last year we don't have any games in March and April.  Why is it so hard to save your complaining until the roster is set?  WTF is the point of complaining before there's a finish product?  I don't tell the guy painting my house he's a terrible painter because he's only painted one out of four walls.  I let him finish the job first.
