Why Blame Gettleman?

This also goes into a bigger problem. Players don't want to sign here. You think Munnerlyn was just bluffing when he said "long story"? He wasn't.

How many other teams have so many players retire or leave after going 12-4? Multiple teams find ways to keep at least some of those guys when they're cap-strapped, not take them to lunch and tell them where to leave, or if they've contributed to the team for more than a decade, treat the situation like a promiscuous 16-year-old and have them find out the hard way.

Please stop making stuff up.  If you think players don't want to come to a team with two awesome, young leaders on both sides of the ball, coming off of a 12-4 season and a Division title then you're crazy.

Cap was made because we wouldn't pay him and now he's going to get more exposed not playing behind our 7.

You post sums up what I don't understand about all you people in the freak-out frenzy.

It's the first day of the second week of FA and the reports are that Cotchery is coming to visit and they're talking to Jones. What the heck is the problem? There are still other FA WRs available, too.

You can't help? If you're settling for LaFell as your #3 receiver then it's you that really needs some help, my man. I have higher expectations for a #3 receiver than what he offers.

What is the message they're sending Cam? I'd love to hear your take on that.

The man is dealing with cap hell, hasn't overpaid any mediocre players, signed Hardy, signed a few role players, kept our core intact, and is only it's only the beginning of the second week of free agency and there are still plenty of players to target. He told us at the end of the season what free agency was going to look like. Did you not pay attention? Why are you surprised now?

It all boils down to have YOU (the fans) think it should have been done differently and I still haven't seen anyone post what moves should have been made that weren't. Why can't you guys understand that 1) FA is far from over and 2) the front office knows a LOT more than you?

The Raiders and the Browns front offices know a LOT more than we do too, but that isn't helping them win games. They aren't competing against us. They're competing against 31 other NFL teams. They need to know more than them not us. Considering how fast our players were snatched up the joke might just be on us.

So let's be honest here....this is all about YOU.  YOU don't like how he treated Smitty.  YOU don't like that LaFell isn't our #3.  YOU don't like that we haven't signed a vet WR.  YOU don't like Roman Harper.  YOU are mad that it's the first day of week two of FA and we haven't made a splash.  So YOU decide you're going to hate Gettleman?

OK!

Players look good when they're part of a 12-4 Division winner.  Smart move is to not overpay the ones who are just role players or products of the team:  Ginn, Mitchell, LaFell, Munnerlyn.

And the plan is to overpay other team's role players instead of keeping our own? And yes he did overpay for Harper who shouldn't even be on roster anymore. We are going to find out, if you think and make decisions like you know it all then you better know it all.

Who cut Smith? Who hasn't signed a vet WR? Who overpaid for a cheap-shot artist? Was it me? I don't think so!

Are you seriously defending the Harper signing right now? My God. Some of these folks on here, the Panthers could relocate to LA and they'd start posting threads saying "Pretty weather! Paula Abdul! Good call!"

I did not want to franchise Hardy, because he's a very good player getting paid great money. Signing Harper was an awful, awful decision and another slap in the face to Steve. Harper is also past his prime. If that's why we're cutting a good guy, what's the justification for signing the same sort of player? That cash could've gone to Mitchell or James Jones (or Nicks, if he offered him).

Or it could be they have the money to take a chance. We aren't afforded that luxury right now

No...the plan is exactly the opposite of overpaying other teams' role players.

I would rather take a step back then be a perennial one and out team (or perhaps no playoffs for years). We didn't have the horses on offense or the secondary to really be a force in the playoffs....face facts. We need another year at least to retool and be a viable superbowl team.We where not runming on all cylinders last year but will be in the near future.

Why do you guys think we are the only team with cap issues?

I don't.

the teams that have major cap issues are either

1. fuged/ poorly run

2. trying to win a superbowl because their window is now.

Name all of the teams with Cap issues right now for me (even if that is off the top of your head)

Now name the teams who don't have cap issues because they will be either

1. A shitty, shitty team who doesn't sign players to big contracts because they don't draft well (raiders)

2. a perennial contender (49ers, Seahawks)

i honestly thought we would try to retain a lot of the team that helped us go 12-4. Gettleman has decided to just rip off the bandaid

I think it was for the best. I think what we saw last season was the best that team could have done. It was obvious in the playoff game that they weren't quite ready for prime time. If we had wasted a lot if cap space resigning Mitchell, Ginn. Lafell, and Munnerlyn, we couldn't expect more than another early playoff loss.

I don't know that but I do know we would have to cut losses sooner rather than later. He's prepping this team to get young, and big so we have more years at a Super Bowl run
