Why Blame Gettleman?

I agree with this. The problem is, there is literally no way we can upgrade. We will be starting a rookie draft pick and a guy who would at best be a No. 4 WR on another team as our top two receivers. That's on Gettleman. He won't sign James Jones.

Is it safe to say that Ginn was an upgrade last season? I keep bring this example up and it is redundant, but just think for a sec. Ginn came out of no where. We signed him for dirt cheap, and he definitely wasn't on some lift of best WR free agents available. Building a roster isn't as easy as snagging the high rated FA available on NFL.com, or the highest OVR on madden. It all comes down to value and potential. If gettleman thinks he can get the best out of a player and have that guy perform just as well as theses FAs we are talking about, but for a lot cheaper, I am all for it. We got the best scouting guys in the buiz leading our FO. Let's take advantage of that!

Another point is. There are still good players that are going to get cut before the season starts. Why fill up our roster and cap space now? Some of our best pick ups were guys who were cut by other teams in or around the time of training camp.

if we didn't cut him now we would HAVE to pay smitty 10 mil than 12 mil at age 36 and 37.

we will use that money to lock up Cam and Keek, maybe even possibly a FA WR or CB.

It sucks, and trust me i want Smitty here with hopefully Jones and Cochery, and the HN thing is bewildering. But I know DG is not stupid, I have no problem with trusting him. All these other posters with "he's trying to get rid of Cam" is BS.

Was that if he didn't cut him this year? I'm ignorant when it comes to his contract. I thought I read somewhere that it would be better to cut him next offseason. Also he could have at least attempted to negotiate a pay cut.

Tagged Hardy.

Its not the there end all, be all.

He is most likely going to sign a long term deal before this season, lowering that 13m hit. If he didn't have the intention of bringing back hardy long term, he wouldn't have tagged him especially considering our cap issues.

If all else fails, we could trade him for some healthy compensation. There are so many options and opportunities for things to change, we cant just sit here and peg something as a mistake when we don't know how it will play out.

Regardless of the motives the Panthers had for moving on from steve smith, I agree with the move just from the money standpoint alone.

Next season, smith would earn 10m.

Season after, 12m.

It makes sense to me to eat the hit at whatever we are eating this season.

And I'm sitting here thinking, what kind of retard would offer a player this kind of contract? Less money when the player is serviceable, and a ton when the player is old as poo? We wonder why our cap sucks, its because we landed these huge back loaded contracts.

I think Smitty is such a huge part of it. If Steve Smith is on this roster then that would make a James Jones signing that much better. Paying Steve Smith to play in Baltimore makes 0 sense to me. I also think he should have locked up Nicks, born and raised in Charlotte, played college ball in the state. His father even thought it was a done deal(and was happy about it) I mean come on. There are some Huddlers that could have made that happen.

I also think he should have kept at least one WR to help with the transition process. Now we are looking at a whole new group that will need to learn a new system.

Other than that it's pretty much a wait and see, O yea he brought in Roman Harper #comeonman

So other than Smitty you're mad that he said Nicks wasn't the right fit, didn't overpay Gin or LaFell, and signed a safety who formally played for our rivals?

All great reasons to blame him <sarcasm>

That tweet from Captain saying it was a "long story" is a huge red flag.  Players 'retiring' all of a sudden as well is a huge red flag.  It's not why moves are made, but how they are done, like a professional instead of a fourth grade girl in her training underwear, that is pissing the fanbase off.

He's acting like a total douchebag.

Players who are disgruntled because they weren't offered big contracts to continue to play for the #2 D is a red flag for you?

Did u really just say why blame gettleman. OK last year was suppose to be worse than this year we was 12 mil over cap and only had 126 in cap space. Then we get all those guys and have a great year. This year we gain 7 mil in cap space and gave us 133. So that gave us 20 something mil in space. Then signed hardy which gave us around 6 or 7. So thats more than we had last year and we lose all our players and don't sign nobody. Hell yeah he has a lot to do with the blame.

We've signed 5 or so players.  Not to mentioned the guy who was arguably the top FA available.  Also....has free agency ended yet?  Did we sign any of those players last year that you're referring to in the first week of free agency?

Lol pissing a fan base off. We haven't done poo as a franchise. Lovey dovey, buddy buddy, family feel, smiles and giggles obviously DOESNT WORK.

Hey, this guy is a hard ass. Hey, this guy is bottom line and pays what a player is worth. Hey, this guy doesn't want over pay a my favorite player. fUG THIS GUY he obviously is new here and don't know how we as a n organization does things. Arrogant ass.

from my understanding it was this year. thats why i supported the move, but not the way it was handled.

and the key word from the agent was he wasn't asked to "restructure" not to take a pay cut.

restructure adds to the already ridiculous amount of dead money we are paying already for beason, gross, anderson and a few others.

The emotionality behind the cut, because this is Steve fuging Smith, is where a lot of misinformation has appeared instead of the facts. We don't know if smitty was asked to take a pay cut or he was. His agent said they didn't ask him to restructure, that is completely different than asking for a pay cut. In fact it's worse than just keeping the contract as is.

I'm bewildered by some of the moves because i honestly thought we would try to retain a lot of the team that helped us go 12-4. Gettleman has decided to just rip off the bandaid (minus stewart, something like 10+ million in dead money charged to the cap if we did that). I'm ok with this. We all wanted a revamped offense, there were always going to be growing pains because of the way a lot of the contracts Hurney formed. They made it VERY VERY difficult to cut his guys because the cap hits would be so high. In the end, when we look back in 3-4 years, i think it will have been the correct move. We'll see though.

Who'd we pick up around training camp? I don't remember by now.

Travelle Wharton was one last season, Dwan Edwards the season before. Might not have been our BEST pick ups, but band aids are available around training camp.

In some ways, yes.

What makes my hatred for Gettleman continue to grow is the fact he simply refuses to replace players we've lost at WR. We have no wide receivers and he won't offer anyone a contract. Forget Jones or even Cotchery coming here. Jones is far too talented to come here.

By now, I'm convinced Gettleman is just lonely and likes to schedule meetings with players just to shoot the poo, maybe have some dinner and then tell them what team they should play for. We sure know how to pick the worst GMs.
