Why Blame Gettleman?

Just because Hurney has made mistakes, doesn't mean Gettleman should get a pass for adding his own mistakes into the mix. Hurney put him in bad situation cap wise, but also left him with an outstanding core group of players. A group of players that have proven they can win now, looking at last year.

Gettleman's job is to fix the cap without crippling the franchise in the process, that's what he's going to be judged on going forward. Let's stop blaming Hurney for everything because we aren't the only team with cap problems, yet other GMs still manage to get under their cap and still remain competitive.

Gettleman did that last year, and it's time to see if he can do it again this year. If we take a step back, and I'm not talking record, I'm talking competitiveness. I'm talking playoffs, if we take a step back and don't make the playoffs, then that's on Gettleman not Hurney.

Minus Smitty, what do you think Gettleman should have done differently?

I don't think getting to the playoffs next year is a good measuring stick.  Of course we all want the playoffs based on the team's performance last year.  But with the financial situation we're in along with our Division, it wouldn't surprise me if we took a small step back before coming back strong in 2015.

What exactly are we blaming him for? We went 12-4 last season. Now that last season is over it is safe to say he did a great job given our circumstances. Now, this season you want to judge him prematurely, like a bunch of high school girls because he dissed your bestie. I will miss Smitty, & DG coulda shoulda handled it better yada yada. But all the other moves made or not made is all a result of Hurney. At least wait til the season is over...sheesh!

I agree with the last part 100%, and most of all of it. While certainly questionable, I can't tally down anything roster wise as a mistake until I actualll see proof on the field. What appears to be a mistake now could end up being a smart move. Can't tell at this point

I can agree with that

I can see the reasoning behind everything Gettleman has done besides the handling of the Steve Smith situation.  He botched that so badly that he hurt Carolina's chances of signing future FA's.  Steve Smith was a living Panther legend, and you don't just kick a player like that out the door without even speaking to him first...Smith had to hear his time in Carolina was probably up through social media.  Not that releasing him was a poor decision, just how it was seen by the rest of the NFL was pretty embarassing.

Gettleman gets an incomplete grade from me right now because there's still the draft and a lot of other things that could shake out.  But if Carolina starts losing games because of their anemic passing attack and Smitty tears it up in Baltimore, I'll be the first one with a pitchfork in my hand.

If we take a step back, its on gettleman. No questions from me there. My point is we can't tell if we took a step back or not until we are in season. Yeah our WRs are gone, but it offers us an opportunity to upgrade imo

I agree with this. The problem is, there is literally no way we can upgrade. We will be starting a rookie draft pick and a guy who would at best be a No. 4 WR on another team as our top two receivers. That's on Gettleman. He won't sign James Jones.

it's the hardy tag and players leaving.

we will see if that was worth it or not. I think it will be in the end. CJ will probably be cut in the next few years. We rebuild with Hardy, Star, KK and another DE for the line.

Cam and Keek get locked up long term and go from there. Keep drafting well and a few splash signings here or there whenever we have the means.

Funny thing is people freaking out like we will be 2-14 next year, I still believe, as is, we can not only make the playoffs but make a run.

I think Smitty is such a huge part of it. If Steve Smith is on this roster then that would make a James Jones signing that much better. Paying Steve Smith to play in Baltimore makes 0 sense to me. I also think he should have locked up Nicks, born and raised in Charlotte, played college ball in the state. His father even thought it was a done deal(and was happy about it) I mean come on. There are some Huddlers that could have made that happen.

I also think he should have kept at least one WR to help with the transition process. Now we are looking at a whole new group that will need to learn a new system.

Other than that it's pretty much a wait and see, O yea he brought in Roman Harper #comeonman

That tweet from Captain saying it was a "long story" is a huge red flag.  Players 'retiring' all of a sudden as well is a huge red flag.  It's not why moves are made, but how they are done, like a professional instead of a fourth grade girl in her training underwear, that is pissing the fanbase off.

He's acting like a total douchebag.

Did u really just say why blame gettleman. OK last year was suppose to be worse than this year we was 12 mil over cap and only had 126 in cap space. Then we get all those guys and have a great year. This year we gain 7 mil in cap space and gave us 133. So that gave us 20 something mil in space. Then signed hardy which gave us around 6 or 7. So thats more than we had last year and we lose all our players and don't sign nobody. Hell yeah he has a lot to do with the blame.

if we didn't cut him now we would HAVE to pay smitty 10 mil than 12 mil at age 36 and 37.

we will use that money to lock up Cam and Keek, maybe even possibly a FA WR or CB.

It sucks, and trust me i want Smitty here with hopefully Jones and Cochery, and the HN thing is bewildering. But I know DG is not stupid, I have no problem with trusting him. All these other posters with "he's trying to get rid of Cam" is BS.
