How much cap space will we have next year?

This will be dwills last season as a panther for sure, Stewart I'm not so sure, I think we lose alot of dead money cutting him next offseason, likely be 2016, but beasons dead money will be gone and I think we take smittys dead money hit this year I maybe wrong on that! The cap is expected to reach $140mil but with Cam and Luke looming we need all the space we can.

Are we going to be in the same situation next year? I hope we have a little more wiggle room. Can we cut Stew or Dwill and not be on the hook for as much?

YES!

There are a couple other threads that explain it pretty clearly.

PS..........we're stuck with Jstew for ever.

We have like $102 mil. committed to only like 32 players.  All depends on what it takes to fill out the 53 man roster.

What if DWill gets 2106?

Way too early to tell at this point.  For example most of the dead cap space this year was not on the books at this time last year so you can't predict what will happen next year at this point or what we will have in salaries.  For example Hardy isn't on the books for 2015 since we have him on a 1 year deal by tagging him.  If we sign him long term then things will change significantly.

I know folks worry about this kind of thing all the time but why a year ahead?  We have all the money we need to sign who we want despite what Gettleman says.  The cap is easily manipulated as shown by teams who always seem above it but still manage to sign who they want.

DWill will finish out the last year of his contract in 2015 with a cap hit of 6.3 with dead money of 6.6. No reason for Dave to cut him, add 300k more to the cap, and need to fill another roster spot.

The earliest you can think about moving on from Stew is in 2016 (3.3 savings if cut). He will be here in 2014 and 2015 and could just as easily stay to be cut in 2017 where his cap savings would be 6M

Lots more cuts next year. I would expect Johnson and Dwill to be cut and then we might be out of the hell Hurney put us in. In other words dont get use to winning, because its not going to happen. Hurney screwed us big time.

I'm looking for Olsen & C.J. to possibly be cut next offseason. Wouldn't surprise me if we drafted a DE in the first 3 rounds, not for Hardy insurance, but to replace Johnson.

If it's come down to this, why not just trade them this year?

CJ saves the team 11 million next year with 6 million dead cap. Olsen saves the team 5.6 million. Godfrey would save 4.1 million.

Remember though with 2015 numbers cam isn't on there. He would count for 13 million if he gets the option.

Dwill isn't really cutable till Stewart is in 2016.
