James Jones wants to be Panther

According to PFT:

"With the Panthers beginning to stretch their legs in free agency, the guys they haven’t contacted are raising their hands.

Packers free agent James Jones is sending out word that he too would be interested in filling in a blank depth chart.

I would love the opportunity to play for the Carolina Panthers,” Jones told Josina Anderson of ESPN. “I would love to play with Cam [Newton].”

Someone wake Getts up and tell him someone wants to play for our team

All free agents make similar statements, it's really just a way to create buz around their name.  Their agent wants to set them up for the most lucrative contract possible, so that involves marketing their players to the best team fits, etc.

Whether or not we will actually sign him, is another story.

it seems there is a plan

The Panthers are "keeping tabs" on free agent James Jones.
They're also "slow-playing" Hakeem Nicks' market. GM Dave Gettleman took a similar philosophy into 2013 free agency and emerged with several big-time contributors, including Mike Mitchell, Ted Ginn, Drayton Florence, and Travelle Wharton. After releasing Steve Smith, Carolina needs two starting receivers. Mar 13 - 7:23
