Has Gettleman finally made a big gaffe?

This is what it feels like to me. If people are comfortable overpaying mediocre players why did hurney even leave?

Three winning seasons in eleven years.

And yes, it does seem like the Huddle misses him.

Well, at least the ones who are more concerned with winning in March than winning from September to January.

yep

but I'm sure you'd agree that you have to also win in March to win September-January

Star and Short aren't going to be out there for every snap buddy. We have a rotation for a reason. That means Hardy and Johnson have to create pressure when a guy like Cole is out there (and if you paid attention during 2012 -- they did that by themselves).

I don't want to hear about Addison and Alexander. One is strictly a situational pass rusher while the other one is still question mark.

So, here's my question 'buddy'.

Would you rather have Hardy and no one else but who we draft and roman Harper.

Or.

Would you rather have Anthony Collins, Nicks and/or someone huge like Jairus Byrd?

Again, I don't care about guys like LaFell leaving. I care about wrapping all of our space up in 7 players and watching the other teams fill holes through free agency so that they can truly go BPA in the draft and not having to be in our situation.

Not being able to bring in the free agents we've been targeting. I don't think we simply let Ginn and Lafell walk like some of you believe. They left.[/quote

Who cares?

We couldn't afford either of them and keep the team under the cap.

However you want to look at it, they got more money elsewhere and it does no good but to piss people off trying to say it was because of the FO being assholes.

Everybody thinks their boss is an asshole. Our players are here to win and our FO is here to put together the best team given the money they are allowed to spend.

We don't need some free-wheeling, player's-GM. We have a player's coach and they are lucky to have that, that should be enough.

Players aren't leaving because of the way the players feel about the FO, they are leaving because it wasn't in the best interests of the Franchise to pay them what we didn't feel they were worth or what was fiscally sound. That's all.

Stop trying to dig into personnel decisions like it is some kinda conspiracy. We can't afford big name FA's given our salary cap restrictions. we have to fill out our roster through the draft and bargain bin. What's so hard to understand about that?

You don't have to win in March. Getting blown out in March isn't very productive, though.

I doubt anyone last year would have said we won march when we signed ginn, mitchell,  etc. Those guys were all question marks that turned out to be good players that helped out the core players already here. So you don't need to "win" march.

Except I don't judge the success of an entire offseason based on where we stand less than a week into it. And as others have said, I don't define declining to overpay an average player as a gaffe.

Some of our resident Nostradumbasses have already foreseen our demise. Probably a lot of the same people who did the same thing last season (and the season before, and...). You just can't teach patience, I guess.

This place is ridiculous right now.

The only thing I haven't liked/been okay with is letting Smitty go (in the manner it was done).

Gettleman walked into a situation in dire cap problems, but luckily had a nice young core of players here so we could absorb some minor loses and hope to replace them in the draft or with bargain free agents. Of course, it remains to be seen if we do.

The way I like to look at it, GMan came into an injured franchise and instead of slowing peeling the band-aid off or adding more, he's ripping the fuger off and dealing with the pain now, so we can have the quickest recovery possible.

Considering who we have evaluating talent nowadays, I wouldn't mind G-Man drafting instead of breaking bank for a guy like Byrd. That's what Seattle and San Francisco did (before becoming hot destinations).

Our pass rush is perhaps our most vital resource outside Cam. Imagine Seattle losing Thomas or Sherman or San Francisco losing Bowman or J. Smith. That would be a domino effect.

You didn't exactly answer the question. Would you rather have Hardy/Harper/McNeil than Collins/nicks (who we showed interest for) and a non-old safety that is in the later stages of his career? (Hell, even young fits that bill, and again, we showed interest).

Hardy, no question. Get rid of somebody else if you want to free up money. Don't get rid of our young superstars that produce at an all-pro level and have been developed through our drafting process and groomed by our coaches from the day they came into the league.

I want to win with our guys and that's the way it should be. Don't give me some "splash"

Player because all that does is show we can't develop players and promote from within.

I don't want players who bring baggage and have an entitled-mentality about them. Nicks had entitled written all over him and I'm tired of diva WRs anyway. Let's give Cam a bunch of workouts with draft able prospects and see which ones he's most compatible with and let him have some say so that he feels like they are "his guys." That brings a level of pride and ownership to our young superstar QB an that will go a long way in keeping him here and keeping him comfortable and accountable.

    • We can't afford to reach for one of the first round QBs this year. I would love for nothing more than Bryce to be the reason we don't even scout the bastards
