Continuity for Cam?

Of Cam's 24 td passes last season, only 9 of those were caught by players still on the roster.

6 of those were to TE Greg Olsen

0 of those were to WRs currently on the roster.

Cam threw for 3,379 yards last season only 1,406 of those yards came from players still on the roster.

816 of those yards came from TE Greg Olsen.

0 of those yards came from a WR currently on the roster.

Let's all agree that Gettleman will bring in players for Cam, at this point he doesn't have a choice, but still...

Cam Newton's production in 2014 will have to come from unfamiliar players, mostly from players that have never caught a pass in the NFL. So much for continuity for the young QB.

When Cam was a rookie, he had no continuity at all and still managed to throw for a respectable number of yards.

Exactly, he was a rookie. The goal is to take that rookie and build around him to establish that continuity. This organization has failed to do that. Notice I said organization, because it isn't all on Gettleman. What is on Gettleman tho is purging the talent around him, so he's on the hook for what type of talent is brought in going forward.

Chemistry can be developed. Guys can come together early for voluntary workouts etc and work on timing, route running, ball location and figure out weaknesses and strengths, learn the playbook and verbage.

Of course its easier when you know this already, so you just have to fine tune but he has presumably already have some kind of chemistry with McNutt and King. He just needs to work with whatever vet WR(s) we get and then draft pick(s)

Most importantly though, Cam still has his safety blanket on the roster in Greg Olsen. That's huge for him, knowing there's a guy he can go to who has really good hands and a large catch radius.

I honestly think Cam will be fine throwing the ball. I just believe that much in his ability. I am worried about him not having a LT and an upgrade at RT. A bit disappointed that DG has not been able to get anyone in FA to plug in. Still time left to do so tho.

I don't see that as an issue as Cam developed "chemistry" at Blinn and Auburn in one season at each place and look how that turned out. Hell look what he did his first year with us on a shortened off season with very little practice because of the lockout.

Are we so sure GMan wants Cam? I must say it sure is odd what's going on. Our receiving corp wasn't much to brag about but getting rid of everyone and replacing them with no one is a head scratcher.

Gettleman has said it multiple times that Cam is the qb of the future. Our receiving corp was average last year by most standards and to keep most of them we would have to overpay for them. It was a good decision to let them go. Making smart decision sometimes means letting go of players instead of overpaying for them, that was what hurney did and Gettleman is not hurney. It is what it is but Cam will be ok as long as we can make the o-line good somehow.

Look the situation is what it is. We won't know the situation of how good mcnutt, tavares, draft picks, etc are until we play in the preseason. I am not gonna say that our wr are crap before we have had good legitimate gametime film on them.

Just because Cam is good enough to make it work doesn't mean it isn't stupid to let go of every receiver. Instead of learning new stuff and taking their games to the next level most of the offseason is gonna be spent teaching the basic playbook to a whole group of new guys (with no one to mentor them either). Its basically an offseason of development for Cam down the drain. I wonder how Proehl feels at the moment. Imagine busting your ass on a year long project and your boss comes in and throws it all the dumpster and tells you to start over.
