Brandon Lafell to the Patriots

Uggh fug.

Yeah, we had awful receivers.

Now we're even *worse* at the position, and we also got worse on OL and our 2ndary.

We have tons of holes and we will have to hope for more diamonds in the rough and some amazing drafting.

I really wish we'd managed to keep Ginn or Smitty.

I meant next year when we go 0-17

FSU Booster (and alum...not that it matters). When Jameis and Jimbo came out a couple of weeks ago and stated that Winston will probably not enter the 2015 draft...what they meant was...Jameis loves baseball and intends to earn his degree while playing 4 years of college baseball. When questioned, the first thing Winston mentioned was baseball season---2015.

Unless something unseen unfolds...Winston will not be in the 2015 draft. Mariota, Hundley, or some relatively unknown QB will be the pick. Hackenberg and Winston (for now) will battle it out in 2016.

Oh, and there is NO guarantee that Winston will ever declare for the NFL draft. If there is a good route to the MLB, he will seriously consider taking it.

But this is what I have heard from others...I am not claiming to be close to Winston.

And Smitty was the easy one to keep, if offered a restructure, which makes the move to dump him even more mind boggling when again, considering guys like Godfrey are still on the roster who have never been good to begin with.

Even with his lower production last season (which I again blame mostly on Shula's philosophy), he still accounted for so much of the receiving production - especially clutch 3rd down conversions.

This is me putting it as calm and collected as possible...  People keep writing off the players we lost as mediocre, overpaid, easily replaceable, etc.  But, even in the case of LaFell.  Did I want him?  No.  I wanted to upgrade the #2-4 WR positions...  So, it's not about losing LaFell.  It's about the sheer amount of turnover and downgrading that we have underwent since FA started.  The point of being a 12-4 team with a young core is to keep upgrading around your core pieces while you keep them in place...  We have lost a ridiculous amount of players, I'd wager to say a "record" amount to this point in an offseason.  We have done the opposite of what the goal is to do, and no one can offer any logical explanation as to why.  No, we were not expected to be big spenders, nor would we want to be...  But, I don't think anyone expected us to be this inactive and/or unsuccessful.

We have missed out on every target outside of Harper and I'm willing to bet that is because there were no competitors for his services.  And speaking of overpaid, we just shelled out 2.25M a year for a fringe NFL player.

What is so confounding about all of it is that we could've taken what little cap room we had to retain one of the "replaceables," as many think of them here (Ginn, Mitchell), and retained Smitty.  Most likely, it would've made more sense value-wise to retain Ginn of the two because he excelled at WR and Returner and changed games in both facets.  Then if you still have Smitty and allow him to restructure, you have two solid WRs.  Draft one or two, and/or sign a guy like Jones, Austin, Heyward-Bey, Jacoby Ford, etc. and voila, you have a VERY formidable WR corps.  One that we have not had the likes of since possibly 2003...

So, it's not that each individual, respective loss is a back breaker...  It's that we have racked up a ridiculous amount of losses that have to be replaced, and that cumulative total is far greater than any sum of its parts.  That's what is so devastating about what has taken place.  These are human beings, not lego men.  You don't just remove one and plug in another and expect a seamless transition.  Chemistry is a huge factor in team success, and we just removed a good chunk of contributors from a 12-4 team.  And again, the sheer number of losses is combined with the limited amount of cap space is what makes it so hard to fathom that it can all be replaced with the same quality of player that was lost.  Then we have the draft - a crap shoot.  So, we HAVE to hit on all of those picks as well.  The odds of doing all of those things and replacing what has been lost is what is so concerning, and that is what is hard to get across to those who think this is perfectly fixable...

(Just for the sake of clarity, this was meant as just an add-on to Mav's post)

He wanted to play with a real quarterback who's actually won a playoff game.
