A two time pro-bowl guy and a super bowl winner? I think most of you guys are being emotional cos it's a rival. I wonder how Packers fans would feel about signing Peppers to a 3yr $30mil contract at 34yrs old.

It's a cheap alternative and I think we cut Godfrey to free up space. If rookies like Lester and perceived busts like Mike Mitchell could flourish in our secondary, I think Harper can really help us.

Mike Mitchell was not a percieved bust..he was just behind Tyvon Branch who developed into an elite safety.

Roman Harper was never considered one of the core guys responsible for the Saints Super Bowl. Its just that with all the OL signings we could have been in the mix for them with the amount of money Harper is getting.

We are paying a premium for this bum...if it was vet minimum i wouldnt care but he got a signing bonus when any free agent safety could provide what he does.

i hope we play the saints in our season opener and harper breaks drew brees' leg on a safety blitz on the first play of the game so i can forgive him and enjoy watching him play for the whole season

A lot of people really don't seem to understand how big of a steal Mitchell was.

 

This isn't even comparable.

 

Mitchell was a great athlete but did not get an expanded role in Oakland, I'm assuming because of their lack of stability.  Mitchell was also 26 or so when we signed him, coming off of his rookie contract.  He still had untapped potential and hadn't been utilized well in Oakland.

 

Roman Harper is not athletic and we've seen the best of Harper, which was really just taking cheap shots on opposing players with limited athletic ability.  He has no ball skills and is purely an "in-the-box" guy.  He is also 31 years old and rated out as one of the worst safeties in football for quite awhile.

 

This is NOT Mike Mitchell.

We were Bette off starting Lester next year. This has got to be a veteran move. Secondary just got worse didn't get better

Harper won't be asked to cover that much. He's a strong safety. He'll be a LB in the safety position basically.

But, but, but, the aints. And, and, and, that Smitty incident. And, but, and, bountygate. And, there are guys on the Huddle that tell me he sucks. Whaaaaaaaaargh. I gonna pull my hair out.

Just for the short term. Can we raise the age limit to post to like...adulthood?

Any DB is bound to look better with our front 7. Harper is great in run support, but limited in coverage. This isn't a bad move. A little overpaid, but it's likely he won't see that much money.
