So, lets see what Smith has to say (via David Newton)

I don't have a problem letting a 34-year old #1 receiver go... as long as you have a #1 waiting in the wings somewhere.

I don't have a problem letting a 34-year old #1 receiver go... as long as there's a #2 on the roster who can step into the #1 role.

I don't have a problem letting a 34-year old #1 receiver go... if it makes the team better...

I do have a problem with letting the #1, #2 and #3 receivers go... with nothing in sight down the road and none of the above can be answered in the affirmative.

It would be ideal to have a replacement ready but life doesn't work like that most of the time. I'd rather save the money for 2015 and 2016 to get the money ready for Cam and Luke.

And it was more like we let a declining #2, #3, #3 WR go. We had a really bad WR core and the best part of that core is only going to get worse. Honestly, I dont see this as a big loss because we had a poor WR core last season and you can pretty much replace them with younger guys who can play at a similar level.

not even close

it fails in comparison to any of the following debacles

Moose-pay him

Witherspoon-pay him

Draft-pay him

Morgan-cut him

Delhomme-cut him

Peppers-trade him..or get a real QB that he feels won't give the game away every week and just resign him

these are without even thinking

dropping a 5'9" attention-seeking troublemaker who has lost more than a step along with developing a case of the dropsies when you owe him more than one million for the upcoming season is textbook NFL management.

It isn't even a question.

Yeah I went down that path too....

So cutting a 35 year old receiver who is coming off his worst season is worse than massively overpaying 2 average running backs (among others) which crippled our financial flexibility for years, drafting a murderer, a racist drunk at QB, giving up 2 1st round picks for an average DT, drafting a pillhead ahead of a first ballot HOF receiver because of supposed character concerns, George Seiferts last season, trading 2 draft picks for Jeff Lewis, trading multiple picks for Jeff otah, trading a first rounder for Everette brown, trading a 2nd rounder for armanti Edwards, 80% of Marty hurneys 2nd round picks, and the list goes on.

You're either a prisoner of the moment or haven't been a panther fan for very long.
