Gettleman Made Nicks an Offer, But Nicks Says, "It Wasn't The Right Situation."

Maybe we offered less?

Nicks is far from a guarantee this season considering his past. Injury prone and poor attitude. Funny how no one threw elite money at him.

I agree.

Probably smart for him to not sign here.  He has bigger chance of a higher contract next year just by being average in Indy.

No need to bash Nicks. Luck and Indys Offense offer a better opportunity in the passing game. Unlike the majority of this thread, that's not conjecture, that's a fact. The running backs/OL on the Panthers like Shula's system and the wide receivers don't. Our 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense will absolutely impact signing WRs unless we are willing to overpay.

I think this is exactly the way the conversation went, honestly. Gettleman said something to the sound of "I'll give you your money, but we're not looking to win this season". Nicks: "Then why would I want to be there? I want to try and go to a winning team." Gman: "Then we agree this isn't the best fit for you."

how stupid can you be.

If anything I think our lack of a traditional running game prevented our wr's from being more successful, especially in the redzone. Also when playaction is predictable.  Dwill was horrible last year.  He had a few nice runs off of screen passes when he didn't fumble the ball.  I think Mike Shula is catching a lot of criticism because of over paid under performing rbs.  Whenever we could run the ball....we put up a lot of points.

I'm not saying Shula is great......he's just not as bad as he's made out.

Besides our fan base has a history of pooing on the OC.  I can't remember an OC that fans actually like here.  Even in our SB year people hated Henning.

God people calm the **** down

Dg made an offer he knew nick would not want, but it was obviously the best he was willing to do for nick's services. Either cap related or he felt nicks talent level was not on line with what the colts and others were willing to throw at him

The end. No conspiracy no double meanings.

“After talking to Gettleman I think he agreed that this was the best situation for me too even though they made the offer,” Nicks said. “Like I said I feel like I made the best decision and I’m ready to make the best of it.”

Maybe they both agreed that Hicks talents tended more toward being a supremely dangerous 2nd (or even 3rd) threat in a passing game moreso than a primary threat? And his best chance at getting a long-term deal with significant money was to put himself into a situation like that rather than potentially failing as a #1 WR?

Nicks wants 1 year deal to earn more next offseason. Gettleman wanted to sign him to a multi-year deal at a lower rate than he will be worth after this next season.

THIS!!! Thank you!

I'm going to be laughing at all the teams that are cap strapped in a couple of years b/c of these crazy contracts *looking at you Saints*

DG knows a hell of alot more about football then we do. Stop bitching and let the man work. In 1 year he turned a team into a 12-4 record with good FA pickups and draft. Rome was not built in a day. CALM DOWN!
