What Free Agent WR fills that void now?

Our last hopes are Emmanuel Sanders and James Jones. If we don't get either, then we will be in a real fix. It seems like there should be more receivers wanting to come in and play with Cam.

Saunders wants a multi year deal and no way I give that for a slot receiver with screws in each foot. I'd rather double up in the draft with WRs and get some vet depth in free agency. This is what will likely happen.

I think a lot of posters haven't seen Emmanuel Sanders last year..he took a step back and is more so a #3

He definitely list a step and LaFell would have the same numbers as Jones if he played w The Packers

I actually think it is awesome how scared all of you are. This is great. I hope the Panthers do not sign anyone just to make everyone suffer hahaha.

Who is scared? There is no fear in the OP, nor is there fear emanating from this thread. Confusion? Perhaps. But more sober than anything else.  It's time to be real.  Especially in relation to other teams, we are going to have a vacuum of leadership at the WR position.  What it will all mean for this season is anyone's guess.  In a way it's like one big experiment, so in that sense it may be fun, but I don't believe that we are going to be able to put our best foot forward...Sorry, we will be able to put our best foot forward, but it will probably get stepped on. It is what it is at this point.

Gettlemen for Edelman.

I think we can find a decent slot WR--something we have not had much--and look to the draft for the rest.  Keep reminding yourself that there are  10-12 WRs in this draft who might go in the first round any other year.

Edelman can return punts.

About Smith's "leadership" at the WR position--I am not sure you need positional leaders, but let's say you do.  Since he was drafted in 2001, how many WRs drafted since ever did more than bust here?  Lafell may be the only one.  Even Hackett and Keyshawn sucked here.  Proehl might be the only free agent to thrive, and he mentored Smith.  Smith said, "Why should I help other WRs on my team when they are my competition."  I am not sure Smith was actually the leader we all thought he was.

It's not even only Panthers fans that are very confused. Other teams fans think we're doing it wrong and are wasting Cam's prime years.

So don't say bs like "this is how the great franchises are ran."

Lets face it ALOT of times fans get it very wrong and I really could care less what fans of other teams think. We're obviously drafting a WR high. And we ARE going to sign some cheaper vets whether it's Cotchery, Jones, Britt etc. We didn't sign Mitchell or Ginn during the first week of FA and they panned out well for us. There are ALOT of Ginn, Mitchell, Captain level guys in the NFL, that's why Gettleman didn't bend over for any of them. I hate the Smith move as much as the next guy but I'm not going to burn our new GM who IS trying to fix our horrid cap situation and still field a competitive team for 1 move I disagree with. Anyone who thinks that is an easy task is delusional.

Gettleman did great in the draft last year. He's gotta nail it again this year. His best strength is his scouting/talent evaluation. He will draft players that can step in and play Day 1 ala Star, Short, Klein. Teams draft WR's that impact every year, we just have to be the team that does it this year.

We are going to be very active in the mid-lower level FA's. Like last year some will pan out, some wont. Fact is some of the big money FA's will not do squat next year but eat huge cap off their team, happens every year.  A lot of times the low tier guys have something to prove and can still make an impact. Can't judge the whole offseason and especially the 2014 season on March 15. There is still a lot of time to fill holes and build the roster. There will be more cuts after the draft and on June 1, when hopefully Hardy has signed a longterm deal and we actually have some money.

People on here are acting like 15 yr old girls that lost out on tickets to a Bieber concert.

What I do not understand is this:

Why is everyone mad at Gettlemen?  He worked miracles last year to get a team on the field (NFC South Champs, #2 seed, 12-4) with a $16 million deficit.  This year, there is much less fat to trim, but there is a ton of dead money and salary going towards a guy wearing a floppy hat riding a stationary bicycle all year.  The dead money, the Stewart money, these are real issues that Gettlemen did not create.

Now you want him to go splashing in free agency at WR in a pool of mediocre, red-flagged talent?  And you blame Gettlemen for this?

He is doing it the only way it can be done--he is doing his homework to find players who have been overlooked on their own rosters, players with something to offer.  Not your name-brand, inflated talent.  It is MARCH, let the man do his work.  You have seen nothing but positive results from him, and now you attack him.  Without him, we are still talking about the team moving to LA.

This team was never moving to L.A. So just stop it
