Except Marino had a great oline and an incredible pair of receivers and a shitty defense.  Pretty much polar opposites in that regard.

intended or not it looks like you have hit on where the real focus should be or should I say the main focus.

But back to the point neither one have won anything yet in the NFL.

Well when that high level QB has no weapons hardly to throw to and has to run for his life just about every play because he has no oline to protect him. It makes sense sometime. But it's just a thought. Cam ain't going to be traded unless DG is that plain and stupid.

I didn't know FA was over and the draft had ended.

Note that we still have our top receiver and we are likely to bring back our #2 WR.

Our receivers were awful last year as a whole.  I love Smitty and liked Ginn's improvements, but from a talent perspective, we can recover that quickly.

You're not going to recover someone like Cam quickly, if ever.  You never let him go.

I don't see why you set a division winning team with a proven, high-level QB, back another 3 years by rebuilding for what amounts to little to no reason.

I would suggest we are on a 3 year rebuilding plan anyways so what's the diff. Like the geniuses here say it doesn't matter who we get to play as long as we win. Six in one hand...

We're not on a 3 year rebuilding plan, and if you trade Cam there's no guarantee you ever get anything close to him again.

Cam is the reason the offense did anything at all last year anyway...

When Cam bolts year after next the best we are gonna get is a 3rd round compensatory pick. Trade him right now today to the Browns for the 4th, 26th, and 35th pick in the draft.(Browns cut their 2 QB's yesterday).

you say no the cap says yes. 3 years at least. "everyone is replaceable."  If what you say is true about cam being the reason then 3-4 high profile playmakers can replace one.

Sure they have a chance to replace one. The draft is no guarantee, especially with quarterbacks.  Why toss a QB that has proven himself away out of fear he may not return?  We've got another good decade with him in all likelihood.

The cap doesn't say yes.  We may not be able to make big splashes in FA for the next few years, but remember what we did this last year without a lot of cap room.  Our record last season suggests we are not "starting over."

I do agree with most of you that this would never happen.  Every team's number one priority is to have a franchise QB and we have ours. I don't think any team would be crazy enough to take such a risk.  If it backfired even a little bit, literally everyone in the organization would be fired.

Also, we just got rid of Steve Smith for the sole purpose of making if officially Cam's team.

But with that said, it's a very realistic idea that Cam could leave in a few years.  He wants to win above all else and with our horrible Cap situation, literally every draft pick we make is going to have to pan out for us to be successful.  Every year for the near future we are going to have to make lemonade out of lemons.  Could you imagine Cam or Luke or someone decided to hold out?

So no way I would do it now, but if Cam started to hint at wanting to leave in a year or two I don't think it would be the dumbest thing ever, just the riskiest.

Also, nobody is going to take Jonathan Stewart's contract. Over how many years is he guaranteed money? Until 2018? Nobody would want to take that for a RB that can't stay on the field.  Gotta be one of the worst contracts in the NFL.  Most teams would probably rather sign Carly Rae Jepsen to play RB than trade for Jonathan Stewart.  If Hurney was still here and we could get Carly Rae for less than 1 million, it would be one of the best moves he ever made.

I wouldn't do it out of fear I already said that. I am saying that 3-4 playmakers trumps one. multiple early round picks  and a large cap space would be a great way to build a winning Franchise. there is not just one way to build a winning team.

the proposal for a trade is a sound business option. I just don't think cam will or would walk away.so you wouldn't want to make a move based on that assumption.

Do you see him taking a less than generous contract? Or will we have any other money left to sign anybody else after a generous contract.

Incidently, I am going out on a small limb with a huge ASSumption.
