People already moving on to the next thing, but is there any evidence James Jones is coming?

Folks, the free agent market at WR was/is crap.  Nicks has some upside, but an injury history and some other issues that cause concern.  If the Giants did not want him back, and Gettlemen did not want him here, then there is a good reason.  Decker?  Jones?  These are the "elite" names.  I am glad our GM did not bite.

Many are trashing Lafell (me too) and he is probably as good as some of the other WRs people want.   If we sign Lafell, believe me when I tell you that he will have competition.  I do not mind the idea if we bring in a first round pick and possibly another pick.  I also think they feel they really could have a decent player in McNutt or King. Remember, Denver was pissed when Gettlemen grabbed King.

We are looking at an increasing likelihood that we go with a rookie WR in this very talented, very deep draft.  If I were the GM, I would say, "Hmmm.  Who would I rather have, Hakeem Nicks at $5m on a 1-year deal, or Brandin Cooks/Odell Beckham Jr/Jordan Matthews on a 5-year deal at $2.5 million?  If we can then draft a T and turn around again and land someone like Abrederris in the third round for less than $1 million per year, are we better?   I think so.

We have not "missed" on a WR.  If Gettlemen is letting the best WR on the team walk and has not splashed in free agency, I assure you that he has a plan.  With the draft more loaded at WR than ever before, I am guessing there are some players in it that he sees able to improve us.  With his eye for talent, I am fine with that.  Maybe we can't snuggle with a name now, but we will.

We are definitely looking at a double dip at WR and Oline poistions.

My worry is I wish Gettelman could secure 1 hole before the draft.

Plus we need at least 1 guy who has caught a pass in a NFL game on the roster.

I'm still hoping Gettelman can get 1 wr or OT with secondary help before the draft.

We'll see.

There are far more reports that say we wanted Nicks than there are that say we didn't.

Ace, I heard them.   But so many were speculation based on his home, connection with Gettlemen, UNC, etc.  I am not sure I ever heard specifically, "The panthers want to bring Nicks in for a visit"

What is this logic!?!?! Madness pure madness! Finally a logically post, I would pie a thousand more times. As everyone else would say that there logic cannot be tolerated on dis board.

Ha, ECU.  You are right.  We are all caught up in emotions, and it is easy to make a move because we need to make a move.  The point is to get better, and many think that window has closed.  Considering our cap situation, I think it is just starting to open.  How hard will it be to replace 2000 TOTAL yards of WR production? I think so. (To keep Ginn, Smith, and re-sign Lafell, it would cost this team about $15 million.  We can duplicate that production with a vet and a rookie or two that cost us about half of that).  Can we find a better FS than Mitchell?  I think so--people have inflated his production.  Can we find a corner to replace Munnerlyn?  ($5 million a year--Vikings headed toward buyer's remorse).

Gross is going to be the hardest person to replace.  Everyone is griping about the OL, but we started Bell at RT, Scott/Chandler at RG, and a "washed up" Travelle Wharton at LG for most of the season.  (He was out of shape for a while).  Now we have Silatolu coming back (people forget how good he was becoming), Kalil, and I think they really like some young folks like Bond, Chandler, Kugbila, Etc.  Add a veteran T and a rookie, the line could be better. People don't see that now, but I think Gettlemen does.   We have a very good OL coach.   Any time you lose a pro bowl LT you are going to struggle a bit, so the goal this year may be to focus on making the other positions stronger so we can help LT with a TE, Hback, etc.  If we draft a T, it will probably be a RT.

So in the end, we should improve.   Can we duplicate 12-4?  Maybe, some luck was involved and we have a different schedule.  However, I think we can improve while continuing to become financially healthy.  Long response--sorry.

Thing is if we plan grabbing a couple receivers out the draft I see no point in bringing back Lafell. There are only 4 spots on game day. We are starting from scratch on our wr core what's the point of making the new guys ride the bench till there ready? No reason too.

Me too, but we are not getting a #1 WR in free agency, so we probably need to rewire our thinking.   A single or two in free agendy and a Home Run in the draft.

Personally, I think we might be looking to change that approach.  I can see, with no clear cut #1, a rotation that better matches skill set to situation.  However, I have not heard that recently.  If we bring back Lafell it will be on a small contract and he will have to compete.
