2014 Signings vs. 2013 Signings

Mark my words, we'll find 1-2 receivers, a corner and a tackle during the second and/or third wave just like last year. So why are we panicking? Yes, we found success with guys like Ginn and Mitchell but were they worth the paydays they got? Hell no.

Players are worth what someone is willing to pay. So both Ginn and Mitchell were worth it to someone. Just because it wasn't us doesn't mean they aren't worth their paydays to another team.

The only reason I am starting to have doubts about this year is because while we have been losing key pieces (Steve/Gross) and other contributors (Mitchell/Ginn/Munnerlyn), our division rivals have each gotten significantly better by adding proven talent to their already solid rosters. Right now I can't say with a 100% straight face that we are any more talented, from a roster standpoint after free agency thus far, than anyone else in our division and that's the worrisome part.

People can say "yeah but we still have the draft", but so does every team in the league and every divisional opponent of ours has higher picks with two of them considerably higher. Free agency and the draft hasn't happened yet, sure, but it hasn't happened for anyone else either and they may not be done in free agency either.

we only need one LT?

We need at least two LT, one who can start.

we are probably stuck with Bell at RT but don't pretend he shouldn't be replaced. we simply cannnot afford to.

as for the Guards we have an Unknown in Kug and a promising (opinion) young guy in Amini...

Wharton is probably retired so our guard depth is a former DT

but hey, we only need one LT guys

You can't compare apples and oranges...

This team has so many more holes to fill... Don't believe me just go look at the roster. We have an offensive linemen named Derek Dennis, who the f*ck is Derek Dennis?!?!

Not sure who Derek Dennis is.  Last year we had three linemen on the roster (no numbers assigned, just like Derek Dennis). Were you familiar with Michael Jasper, Oscar Johnson, and Philpkeith Manley????

We didn't make most of our progress until after this time last year

Munnerlyn, Mitchell, Ginn—3/21/13

(full week later than today - although there were cries of apocalypse / Gettleman in over his head)

Blackburn 4/02/13

Domenik Hixon 4/10/13

Melvin White 5/10/13

Robert Lester 5/10/13

Chris Scott 8/02/13

Travelle Wharton 8/26/13

Full disclosure - We had already comfortably wrapped up Colin Cole and Jordan Senn

Hate to ruin the mood, but we may not have to forfeit all our 2014 games - Just a thought

Sorry.  Logic isn't wanted here.

Could you perhaps throw a tantrum worthy of a five year old?

When did being concerned and throwing a tantrum become synonymous with each other?

News flash, people with the flippant attitude that Gettleman has everything under control are just as annoying as those people with the chicken little attitude.

You can be a fan and still worry about how your team is going to perform. Hell, I'm a die hard Bobcats fan but every year I've worried about how bad we are going to be, that doesn't change the fact that I still pull for them every game.

Add in Quintin Mikell Sept. 2

We didn't lose our #1 receiver and LT though. Still time to address in draft and later on though. I think we should be able to patch together a secondary, what I'm mostly worried about is the O-line. Still guys like Rice, Jones, Austin, etc in free agency and we will probably draft a guy first 2 rounds.

Last season we had a HUGE question mark(more like a hole) at the DT position. WR, CB, S, OG, LB, RT.

We had a quiet off-season. People panicked. Draft happened. Started 0-2, people raged. We went 12-4

People need to chill.

Gettleman earned my trust last season and he has done nothing to make me lose that trust so far.

Majority of the holes you see now will be replaced by cheap talent just like last year. I fail to see your perspective.

Free agency seems to be operating differently then it was last year...

You might not be able to find cheap talent. I mean did you see Oher's deal? Unbelievable for a player that had a poor year (last year) to say the least.

The positions that are getting paid happen to be the positions that we need... T, WR, S, and CB.

We actually need three or four receivers, a CB, a FS, a starter at LT, and then considerable depth on the offensive line.

With as many holes as we have this year as opposed to last, it should be more difficult to actually improve upon our season. Last year it wasn't that difficult to improve on a 7 win season. This year I was hoping to improve on a 12 win season or have one comparable.

I would also like to add there was much more talent out there at this time last year than this year. Teams this year are flush with cash and are spending it driving up market value, a value DG is not going to pay.

Then we wait till the market falls to us.

You can take any player and fit them into a scheme. You highlight their strengths and disguise what they struggle in with play calls and different sets.

Its what every team does and coaches get paid to develop a gameplan for it. We will find the pieces and put the puzzle together. A lot of time left just let the process go. If we signed every player day 1 in FA would you rather call us the Skins or Cowboys.... Doesnt matter when you sign or who it matters how they play for you

    • Canales was brought in to fix Bryce. That was how he sold himself. He failed.  the panthers need a new qb, someone to coach him, and someone to build a defensive staff.  Canales has failed at developing a new qb. His big draft project XL is trending towards bust. His entire nfl resume before the panthers was one season as offensive coordinator on a stacked Bucs team, and being on the offensive staff when a 31 year old Geno smith finally put it all together. And he didn’t even pick his offensive coordinator. Assuming evero is gone, who’s he got in that phone to call? What low lvl porn addict evangelical from the bucs is ready to be Peter principled? There is nothing in his coaching history or his current performance that indicates he’s the person to move this team forward. Every other team knew this last cycle (panthers were only interview) and nothing has happened to change that perception   all people like you have is “well you can’t do it again it’s too soon but <random interval of time> will be different.  just pull off the bandage. There’s no reason to let this guy draft “his guy” except people wanting an excuse not to fire him after 2025.
    • Both Reich and Canales were saddled with trying to build and establish a viable scoring offense around Bryce Young. The best the offense looked this season and last season was with Andy Dalton who is also terrible but still better than Bryce Young. Which should be all anyone needs to know but still somehow there are weirdos here salivating over a ceiling of maybe on a really good day the 25th best QB in the league. We've already canned one entire staff over our first overall pick. You can fire everyone again to satisfy your need for vengeance and quickly come to the realization that your next hire will absolutely unequivocally be a downgrade yes man or you can blow up this QB room and then assess. If no progress next season then you can make changes and justifiably so.
    • Surprised this is the only post with this take.  This is like the Rhule kiss of death lol.
