Nicks officially a Colt per Schefter

I agree with everything you just said...my point  however is simple.  Going into the season with no well-known WR's does not mean our season is over. The Pats didn't see things that way, and neither should we.  The best WR on our roster last season had 700 yards and played second fiddle to a TE.  There are about 6 WR left on the market that can fill that same role, supplemented by young talent already on the roster and those we may draft.  I wanted Nicks...I really did...but we don't have him, and I'm not gonna get down on my team because of it.

Dude we are not the Pats and Cam is not Brady. Brady is elite and he can shred your D with the worst of WRs. Please stop comparing us with the Pats. So long as Brady is their QB. They can have the worse WR core and still win 12 games without thinking about it. We can't. Cam has to have good WRs to win. Plain and simple.

yes because smith distracted cam in the 4 fuggin fourth quater game winning drives he had, Cam was the best leader he's been even counting college last year. Smith demanding for the ball i need proof, because in the interviews it seems like he knew his role and was all about winning as a TEAM............onl time i've seen smith say he demanded the ball was the 4th down play against Miami..................impeding Cam's ability to lead is a lame excuse because if you look at all the top WR there's times where there going to tell the qb to throw them the damn ball.......... if that is what smith did last year it sure as hell worked going 12- and fuggin 4

Im not getting emotional here when I say this. Cutting Smith was fuging stupid in every possible way. From a business stand point? We have to pay him 5 million to play against us, plus more to find a replacement. Also, at least 50% of people wearing jerseys at BOA are wearing Smith jerseys. He's a fan favorite, so this will hurt revenue.

From a talent stand point? He was our best option available without any question. It would be different if he had a replacement for him in mind (Nicks) but he doesn't.

There is literally 0 sense in cutting him unless like you said, Cam wanted him cut. In which case Cam can go fug himself until he starts beasting next season.

To be fair Cam and the D were able to win 12 games with some below average WRs.

I feel like the offense can get by with less WR talent. We were in it for the most part in the SF playoff game. That tells me we aren't that far off and we are one of the top teams.

They cut Steve Smith!!! We didn't sign Nicks!!!!

More like "Marvin Mcnutt is our number 1!!! We are gonna resign Lafell!!!!"

I mean no disrespect but a lot of you don't get why all these posters are actually upset.

News flash dude. Comparing Tom Brady to Cam is way off ain't it. Cam ain't even in Brady league. Brady is an elite QB. Cam is good, but no where near Tom Brady good. Brady has always made avg or below WRs look good. Also Brady had good oline and a running game last year unlike us. It does take but a few seconds for Tom to pick you a part. Cam is not that good yet. Cam needs some big time WR with talent to help him and a good oline to protect him. So there is no way can compare Cam to Brady.

Good grief.  I never compared Cam to Brady, nor did I compare the Panthers to the Pats.  I clearly and simply made a point that its not like we are the first team ever to rely on rookie wide receivers.  Also...please see my reply to another uniformed posters post on this matter...Brady did not have a good o-line last year.  He was sacked just three less times than Cam.

I don't like it either.  I have a Smith jersey hanging in my closet.  I freakin love the man, and will miss him like crazy.  But every good thing comes to an end.  The organization had its reasons for letting Smitty go.  We don't know exactly what those reasons are right now.  But the bottom line is Smith is an average #2 WR now whose drops and fumbles were starting to add up.  Just look at the number of cut Steve Smith threads on this forum from September through December.  There are a number of them.  He is past his prime and had become easy to take out of games.  And maybe Getts does have a replacement in mind.  Remember...Nicks didn't exactly light things up the last 2 years either.  Maybe the team did not think he was the answer.

The fascinating part is that we never made him an offer. Gettleman knows Nicks better than most and he was not interested. I'm ok w/that.

It wouldn't be the first player Gettleman missed on. Cut Smith and he had a job less than 24 hours later. But I guess he knows more than the Patriots, Ravens, and Seahawks too because all they've done is win Super Bowls. I thought nobody wanted a loud mouth 35 year old WR
