Why would Olsen know?

I'd imagine some of the guys probably are friends with Nicks. So, if Nicks came into town (not sure if he did), they may have met up with him and somebody in the locker room talked.

OR, news trickled out of the FO and into the players' ears.

OR, it's all utter BS.

If we did sign Nicks, I think I know what number he would want if Olsen doesn't give up 88.

Unless I am wrong in my recollection....Nicks wore 89 in high school. Wonder if he'd do it, knowing the Smitty love and the association that will be forever held by Panthers fans and the #89.

Not sure Jackie Miles, if he is still our equipment manager, would give out a Smitty jersey this year. Let Smitty retire before you start using the jersey. Then, when the jersey gets retired, you'll never have to worry over it again.

But I am only guessing. Jackie is a pretty stand up guy. He might not willing give out Steve's jersey.
