Ravens sign Steve Smith

One important thing about this signing and it maybe a blessing in disguise is that the Ravens WR need is alleviated and they may explore Pryor, G or RT in the first.  That opens the door for a wideout and takes away one of the WR needy teams.

Per Schefter.

Good at least he's in AFC and not NFC South.

Looks like Smitty got a great deal.

3 years 10.5 million, 3.5 signing bonus

Glad to see Smitty get a good contract. Add the amount that we will be paying him and he comes out pretty good.

He almost flew to NE but canceled his flight out of Baltimore. Must of been a great pitch by ozzie

You Hit that one. Signing right out the gate when he had plenty of other suitors. Not gonna lie...wonder just what they did to make Smitty so happy?

also had a potential meeting with SEA

He had some very good teams showing interest. Picking the Ravens so quickly is amazing. Made him happy enough to not leave the building. WOW>

Smith told reporters he'd received interest also from the Chargers, Redskins, Seahawks and yes, Patriots.

None of us, well...most of us, agree that Smitty still had some gas in the tank. Especially if we could get him in the slot. This shows to go ya. There were teams out there thinking the same thing. I so hope he proves the "He only had 750 yards last year. He hasn't had a productive year in 3 years. And my personal favorite. He is a $3 or #3 at best."

I believe he signed with the Ravens so quickly for two reasons. 1) It is relatively close to home. 2) They told him what he wanted to here. That they wanted him, and they were planning on utilizing him. They are the two most pressing needs in his life right now. His family, and gaining his respect back.

Go give em' hellz Smitty.

I don't think anyone ever questioned that he had gas in the tank.

I've heard enough talk indicating that the team believed it was necessary to let him go so the Panthers could become Cam Newton's team.

Whether you agree with that strategy or not, that looks to be what the Panthers believed, and what ultimately drove the decision.

Did Cam Newton somehow nudge it toward happening?  Don't know.  Reality, probably don't care.

We make the best team we can going forward.

I was more talking about the vocal minority who were saying the Smitty was not worth the bother because his stats had fallen, and they considered him washed up.

I do believe most Panther fans would divvy up something to keep Smitty another year or three. And most are not happy with the Gman right now for how this played out.

But there were those that thought Smitty needed to go. That is all I was trying to say.

If the Nicks signing is true. Gman is one step closer to mending dome fences. And back on track to building us a consistent contender.
