David Newton: panic is unwarranted

He left off an important point.  The moves may have been warranted, but why be an asshole about it?

Jordan Gross got a press conference, Saints posted a farewell Sproles video on their site, steve finds out from tweets.

We owe (owed? - still getting used to that) So Much More.

I think we can agree that this is also a learning process for Gettleman.  His learning curve should be short compared to other first time GMs because of his experience, but he's never had to deal with the public scrutiny a GM has to deal with. Also there's a bit of a difference of etiquette between New York and the Carolinas.  We all thought Ron Rivera wasn't a capable HC too...myself included. We have to let Gettleman learn and grow in the public relations department.

I'm sure in retrospect Gman wishes he would have worded things differently at the Combine regarding Steve.  Personally I can see how easy it would have been to word things the way he worded them about Smith at the combine. It takes two to tango and Smith publicly bitching was also the wrong way to react.  Gman did meet face to face with Smith, where I'm sure him and Smitty put the cards on the table and had it out.  Steve's prideful, and if Hurney was here he would have gained special treatment and manipulated the organization around his will.  Sorry if Steve feels like a jealous older brother when it comes to Cam.

It's important for the Panthers...comprised mostly of young players and operated  under new management to treat players equally and provide an equal modus operandi.  This way players know that no one player is bigger then the organization.  DG did make a mistake the way he worded things....but it was over when Steve drew a line in the sand.  At that moment Steve decided he didn't want to be a Panther.  It's funny that he admits he's not a number 2 anymore yet got so upset at GMAN inferring pretty much the same thing..  So Steve in essence knew GMAN was telling the truth but just didn't want to hear it then he used it as leverage to separate from the team.  It's probably about money....he knew he was getting that back end money and by getting cut and resigning else where he probably nets and extra 2-3 million bucks.

When Gettleman was hired every one was exulting him because he would make impersonal decisions regarding the roster.  Hurney we all thought was too loyal to players both through money and emotionally.  It crippled the growth of the franchise.  Now that Gman has come in and has done everything we wanted him to do,  expected him to do and won while doing it....the fans want to burn him in effigy.  I get that as fans of this team maybe we underestimated how jarring the shock would be.  Remember though, this is what we wanted him to do...and he's had a large role in making us a winner.

So I believe in Gman's abilities....and especially his ability to evaluate talent.  I imagine him sitting in a room....hearing all this negativity about him through the media and he's just sitting back just smiling thinking "just wait."

We filled many roles last offseason with late FA additions....low dollar guys. And they played very well.

We will add this season the same way. So, you whole premise and hypothesis is categorically inaccurate.

It is not the one or two low tier FA we may sign that I am talking about, more so the kids right out of college thrust into starting roles at high skill positions like wide receiver and offensive line that concern me. The vet FA can plug and play...Several inexperienced rookies forced to start day one on offense, not so much.

Ok, that's your opinion

Mitchell was a good player, but I feel we can find a replacement. Especially considering its Rivera and he can make a top tier D out of nothing. We found mitchell as a back up in Oakland a year ago. I'm confident we could find another dude like him. One of the perks of our GM
