i agree with all his points. every one. ive not lost faith in the Front Office, even through the Smith debacle. the Panthers as we knew them are no more, and its too early to tell whether thats a good thing or bad thing. for now, it seems like a good thing. to lose faith now and be a pessimist is to be a bandwagon jumper. trust the businessmen to handle the business aspect of the game. know your role as a fan and support your team. people act like our beloved Panthers are free-falling, but as Newton and others even here on the board have said, we havent lost much in reality. the future is bright. just as many were saying last season as the Panthers began to prove their relevancy, sit back and enjoy the ride. stop your panicking and belly-aching. are you a Panther fan or not? if so, be an adult with your displeasure/objections to the team's decisions. if you cant, i hear there are large buildings where other small children gather to learn their abc's and have nap time.

You need chemistry in order to be sucessful and a bit of trust in the guys you have covering your back. Whom ever you may see here in august they will need time to gel and learn the system.This isn't Madden so don' t except great things from rookies clean out of college at skill positions. There is a learning curve and it may not be very pretty for a while.

I think this is a more important point than most realize.  The Panthers as we knew them were a perennial .500 team.  Winning a few, losing a few, providing occasional excitement, but more often disappointment.  The new Panthers are becoming a legit NFL franchise, both in the FO and on the field.  Gone are the days of, 'it is what it is' and 'we picked a bad day to have a bad day.'  Accountability and action are the new flavors.  It will mean less of a touchy, feely team, but consistency and winning will be the results.

 

We can all agree that the Smith situation was handled poorly, and I suspect that DG regrets the way it went down.  Remember that he just turned 1 as a GM a couple of months ago.  I'm sure he learned from this and will handle similar situations with more tact.  Damning him as a douche because of one error is short sighted and reactionary.

 

Players need room to grow, as do coaches and the FO.  We saw a huge change in RR in his 3rd season.  DG started off strong, but he was still a rookie GM last year.  He deserves some slack, too.  He is turning the Panthers into a team of winning culture, and I, for one, am damn glad we have him.

I do agree that the Steve Smith situation could have been handled differently. but the only other way that could have been handled would have been a candid meeting on January 13th between Steve, DG, and RR. im not going to call DG a jerk for being honest with a reporter's question. had the reporter not asked, this situation may have been worlds different. Steve probably would have been talked to privately and offered a low salary for one more season, maybe two. but Gettleman and Riverboat would have made it clear that the time was right for Steve to ride into the sunset like Gross did. i place the most blame on the reporter who asked Gettleman about Smith. Gettleman just replied honestly so he wouldnt be two-faced. once he answered the question, the information was on twitter practically immediately. not much DG could have done at that point to stop the floodgates of drama. 

 

and others have been mentioning Gross like its the end of the world. our line is in bad shape. and so is our receiving corps and secondary. but Gettleman did alot with less resources last year. as much as people dont want to admit it, this team is rebuilding. we are transitioning from constantly using stop-gaps and journeymen to building a young core of talent that we can patch up around the edges. look what we did the first year, 12-4. based on our schedule, that same success could very well be attainable next season too supposing Gettleman does what he did last year to fill the team's needs. be patient fellow fans...

We filled many roles last offseason with late FA additions....low dollar guys.  And they played very well.

 

We will add this season the same way.  So, you whole premise and hypothesis is categorically inaccurate.
