Do we cut Godfrey and let him test the market?

Most logical solution is for Godfrey to take a serious pay cut. We hold all the cards in this situation. Take a cut to 3 mil per year...that gives him more than he would make if cut and saves us four million while keeping an experienced safety. Godfrey isn't great...but he isn't terrible either...kinda like the rest of our secondary from last season.

Our coaches and GM seem to really like Godfrey.  Fans who don't even see him because he is off camera 90% of the time don't like him as much.

He was our starting safety until he got hurt, we also have Lester waiting in the wings who can play.

His price is too high though, but  nothing you can really do about it.

We found two better safeties than Godfrey on the scrap heap last year. Godfrey simply isn't very good. He's truly horrible at $7.1M.

Godfrey was starting before he got hurt early in the season. We don't know how good he would have been on the defense last year.

Godfrey is insurance right now until we sign a FS, and cutting him would require a June 1 designation, so why do it now?  Gettlemen knows that cutting folks creates dead money.  We have only 1 FS at the moment, a special team player (Jones).  So if we don't get the $$ until June and have no safety on the roster now, why cut him right this second?

I am guessing that he is going to try to get him to reduce his salary.  If Godfrey does not, he will be cut.

Godfrey has always been and will be better than Mitchell this year and beyond. Sometimes you guys are blinded by the shiney new toy or cap hits. Godfrey is like Gamble, better than he is given credit for and hated by the fan base for no reason.

I really don't see him being cut.

Rivera was singing his praises prior to last season saying that he had found a home at FS.

I am a bit optimistic that Godfrey could have a huge year behind this front 7.

He needs to take a paycut though, no question about it.

Godfrey has potential...but I wouldnt say he's like Gamble. Gamble was good, but unspectacular which is why fans underappreciated him. Godfrey is just wildly inconsistent and has some very bad moments that fans remember

I wonder how Godfrey will return from his injury since it usually takes players 2 years to fully recover from an Achilles injury...wouldn't mind keeping him after a Nakamura-like paycut
