Huddle opinion....who agrees with the complete overhaul we are seeing

I'm furious at this whole thing. Just who is Cam supposed to throw to?! McNutt!? C'mon man. I just hope and pray that they gave Cam some assurance, along with a rather detailed plan, that they will get some quality WR's in here or he may just say, ahhh, to hell with this place and leave after his rookie deal is up. Don't think it can't happen. It can, and just might. At which time I will seriously consider my choice in teams, something which seemed impossible to me just a few weeks ago.

He did, however, once use a franchise tag on a punter (Todd Sauerbrun).

Hurney also placed a transition tag on DeShaun Foster, meaning he had to be paid a salary equivalent to the average of the top ten runningback salaries in the league. That was after choosing to draft Foster over Clinton Portis.

This is also the guy who traded away a future first round pick for Everette Brown and a future second rounder for Armanti Edwards.

That's not someone I would use as an example of good value judgment.

I'm not taking up for Hurney I was on the fire hurney train, but we need to stop pretending that every time gettleman makes a move we don't agree with, it's Hurney's fault.

15 million was just spent on keeping one player and another's departure. Every GM wouldn't have made those moves. Gettleman needs to be judged on how he fixes the mess because that's why he was hired.

If you cite Hurney as a positive example, you can't exactly be shocked if you get called on it.

If you look at the Division, I really don't think that much has changed.

The Bucs have made upgrades on D, like they did last year, and see what that did for them: NOTHING. They lack a good corner opposite Verner, they lack a QB, and they lack a TE threat or #2 to keep doubleteams off VJackson. I believe that Doug Martin is incredibly overrated as a RB, and without a good passing game, opponents will stack the box against them.

The Saints are still the most dangerous team, with a healthy Brees and Jimmy Graham, but they have lost some good players also on both defense and offense. I think the loss of Sproles will hurt both the run game and pass game, unless Mark Ingram turns out to be the player they thought they were getting when they drafted him. I think the Saints will win the division, but it will be close. They will probably go 8-0 at home again, but I can see them going 3-5 or 4-4 on the road as usual.

The Falcons still lack a run game, they lost the great Tony G, and lack an offensive weapon outside of White and Douglas. Their OLine is still as suspect as before, and their Defense does not concern me as much. I think they will probably finish a game or two behind us in the standings,

What? Now you're reaching.

Bucs had a lot of talent and no coach to do anything with it. Now the have a reputable coach who's been to a Super Bowl and have added significant pieces on both sides of the ball.

Saints are dangerous as long as they have Brees and a decent D. The D was damn good last year and Brees still has weapons.

Falcons added a good run blocker, still have Julio Jones to pair with White and Douglass. They're expected to target a pass catching TE in the draft. We barely got by them in one game last season.

You don't win in March, but all we've done is go backwards so far.

Our inability to resign these FAs is mainly due to Hurney idiocy with the cap before. If Gettleman did not have to go through the bargain bin and force guys to restructure just to get the Panthers under the cap last year, maybe we would have some more money to play with. Losing Hardy would be a huge mistake. If Carolina sucks this coming year, then Gettleman has to shoulder some of the blame, but as of right now, our frustration with what is going on in FA is a direct result of years of previous mismanagement. And also, Gettleman has already done a great job in year 1 with "this mess" and expecting him to be able to replicate a 12-4 season is a little much. I think we should still compete for a wild card spot, but I think 9-7 or above and the improved cap situation would be a step in the right direction, setting us up for multiple Super Bowl runs (knock on wood) for the foreseeable future.

I really haven't even accepted it yet.

In my brain SS is still a Panther and I haven't faced reality yet.

I was really just talking tough the last few days, as soon as my brain realizes SS is no longer a Panther its going to be game day Fox007 up in here.

The only move I dislike Gettleman for is cutting Smith. I honestly felt that if we could have drafted a receiver like Kelvin Benjamin or Odell Beckham Jr in the first, and a receiver like Donte Moncrief in the 3rd, then we'd potentially have our future #1 and #2. With those two rookies, Smith could go in the slot. All we'd need then is a KR and PR, and some depth. Receiving core rebuilt. But Smith is not going to be a part of that, and that's a shame.

As for the rebuild itself, I think Gettleman is making the right decisions so far. He wants to build a consistent winner, and get the cap in order. He will need to hit a home run in the draft, and with FA and UDFA again. But hopefully he gets the job done. Though time will tell if he's going to lead this team to where we all want to see it go.
