All this Gettleman hate....

I don't think most are upset at the sheer fact that Steve was released.  There were a lot of valid reasons to let Smith go.  But just the way it was handled was botched so badly, it does make Gettleman look pretty cold and borderline arrogant.

I have the right to question someone who has let basically all of our secondary, receiving corp and o-line go and brought in literally no one to replace them. For whatever Hurney did wrong, he never left these sorts of gaping holes.

Hurney never left gaping holes?

How often did we have a solid receiving corps or interior defensive front under Hurney?

Heck, how many times did we have a good cornerback not named Chris Gamble?

How good were we at tight end in the years before we finally got Greg Olsen?

Who played quarterback between Jake Delhomme and Cam Newton?

Hurney managed this team from 2002 through 2012, and out of the eleven seasons he was in charge we had only three winning campaigns.

This is not someone I would hold up as a model of consistency

And can we please remember that our final roster will be set somewhere around six months from now, not tomorrow?

Sheesh folks

We had a clear number one at ALL of these positions. Poor depth, but top-loaded and with a clear starter. You 're telling me we have clear starters at line, wideout, and secondary?

We have 5 million and 7 draft picks. That's not nearly enough to fix even two of our holes.

And that formula got us three winning seasons out of eleven and cap hell that is taking years to fix.

Do you really wanna go back to that?

Yes, because everyone questioning Gettleman just loves everything Marty Hurney does.

I wonder if you'll all be shouting Gettleman's praises when we are 4-12.

You were the one holding Hurney up as a positive example.

And if we go 4-12 this year and become perennial contenders beginning the following year, I'll ultimately be fine with it.

Only reason Hurney should be invoked here is due to the salary cap issues.

Gettleman has just sat idly as we have endured the largest purge I can ever remember in our history outside of maybe Fox's first year (for good reason) and following our Superbowl in 2003.

It is not looking good.

Most of the guys who are gone either retired, or were one year rentals. In case you haven't noticed, plenty of teams sign players for a year, knowing they're not long term solutions either because they're band aids or too pricey for a multi year contract. Revis is a one year rental for the Pats. Hardy may be a rental for us.

As for bringing in no one to fill the holes, it's March 13th, not August, and bidding against other teams for the hottest FA's isn't practical for this team, at this point in time, thanks in large part to Mr. Hurney.
