I just quoted him as a talking point...  Edholm is not the only one saying there is a personal element to this.

I could be very wrong, but from the outward appearances of the situation, I truly believe this was an emotional decision by Gettleman.  He felt disrespected.

I was thinking, when we were discussing the Pats before and their veteran turnover, I kept thinking of Teddy Bruschi.  Pats lifer, not even that great of a player, but retired, got his presser, and then got his number retired.  Despite all of the guys they sign and dump year-to-year, they still treat their most loyal players with loyalty in return.  That's where Gettleman messed up.

I'm sure we won't see eye-to-eye on this Scot, but it's just my take.  I'm sure I'll get over it, but it just isn't right...

What do you think would have happened if Bruschi hadn't chosen to retire at that point?  Sometimes it's all in the timing.

You saw how they parted ways with Wes Welker, right?  Ditto Richard Seymour.

And no, I don't buy this being emotional at all.  The emotional decision would have been to keep him around even when you thought his paycheck outweighed his value.

The Giants essentially made the same sort of decision with guys like Jeremy Shockey in order to put Eli Manning squarely in the driver's seat.  I'd say the success of that move has a lot to do with this move.

Trust me, I know it sucks.  But if we really wanna play with the big dogs, these are the kinds of moves you have to have the balls to make.

Are you sure you quoted the right post? First sentence you said is just plain not true. Second is a little better, but the least you could do is admit he could've been released in a more respectful manner. Third sentence is completely random no one is talking about Hurney. This is about Gettleman and his actions reflecting poorly on this franchise.

As a side note I feel like a lot of people in this thread are just arguing just for arguing's sake. Anytime someone makes a good point and they don't have a response they just ignore it and try to nick pick something stupid. Sometimes you just have to eat crow and admit you are wrong

PD and I have had a lot of discussion on this topic, and not argumentative discussion either.  Even he's admitted it's his emotions as much as anything, something I've said repeatedly I can understand.

I hope we go 16-0 just to spite that bastard.

I wasn't a big fan of it, either.  Hence why I said the folks taking what he had to say as gospel might wanna look a little more closely at what he was saying, particularly about Newton.

Statements like...

Newton has grown a lot since entering the league, but the team also has been very careful to shield him of some outside forces and not let a few stories of his immaturity get out the past few seasons.

Granted, none of these have been locker-room-crushing incidents, but there has been a lot of eye-rolling at Newton's antics on all levels of the organization, even during the playoff run last season.

Even as he was playing at an MVP level at midseason, he hadn't proven to everyone in the locker room that he could be fully trusted. But the people who matter most in the organization are looking past that.

But you can bet that subtly, over time, Newton won some sort of pissing contest, and the team handed him the trophy.

...are not the kind of thing I'd wanna hang my hat on.

Thing is it strikes me as full of emotion and sentiment. Seems very political.

Maybe 89 is a polarizing figure and he brought it on himself but this was botched by Gettleman

If it has the effect they hope it does, then no, it isn't botched.

We'll see how it plays out.

Mr. Scot, this wasn't botched even in the slightest bit by Gettleman? Really?

Conditional statement: "If it has the effect that they want it to..."

That's a big "if", but there's a lot of time between now and September.

Bad PR in the offseason doesn't really mean jack if you're winning games when the season starts.
