yes, but imo, you can still be loyal and respectful of legacies without being Marty Hurney. There's a huge difference between signing DWill to that awful contract that will pretty much ensure he will end his career here, and ensuring Smitty, the face of the franchise, ends his career here. I know he inherited Hurney's mess, but that should've been a priority and he's still productive.

I'm not ever going to be happy about it.

They want to turn the team leadership fully over to Cam and Luke, and the reality is they are the future of this team.

Smitty, as much as we all love him, wasn't the kind of guy that would fade into the background. You'll notice, on the flipside, there's no talk about cutting Thomas Davis.  Davis is much more the type that would accept dropping into the background and letting Luke take charge.

I hate it as much as anyone, but I acknowledge the pragmatism.

Sorry I missed the show. I wouldn't expect him to like Gettleman after this mess. As long as he is okay with it that is all that matters. Whether this is a good or bad move will be known once they start playing the games in 2014.

Now on WFNZ, Steve Smith on possibly playing vs #Panthers: “Put your goggles on cause there’s going to be blood and guts everywhere.”

I really hope he goes to a contender, gets a ring and plays at BOA next year.

After he catches his first pass and glares over to the Panthers bench while he spins the ball, I will stand and applaud.

maybe but that just means that their leadership was ot at SS level. you are a leader, it is not appointed to you by getting rid of your competition. This also assumes that they both stay with the Panthers, assuming some loyalty on their part.

I hope he gets a ring too, but if he does that spin deal at the Panthers I will not applaud. I love Smitty and will pull for him every week except if/when he plays the Panthers.

So you'd rather Smitty win a ring rather than the Panthers win one?  I can't get with that logic.
