i was at the very first game he suited up for us, preseason in Jacksonville.  I remember 3 things from that game:  we lost, Smith had a KR touchdown(might have been a PR) and Dan Morgan left the game hurt.  I have only ever bought one jersey and it is #89.

yes, but imo, you can still be loyal and respectful of legacies without being Marty Hurney. There's a huge difference between signing DWill to that awful contract that will pretty much ensure he will end his career here, and ensuring Smitty, the face of the franchise, ends his career here. I know he inherited Hurney's mess, but that should've been a priority and he's still productive.

I'm not ever going to be happy about it.

I normally agree with you, but just can't on this one. Aside from Smitty taking his massive contract and agreeing to a pay cut, not restructure, there is no way this was going to end well. He was owed massive amounts of money with large cap hits for the next few years. This really sucks but was largely unavoidable IMO.
