Get use to seeing Goodson all over the place

From what I read it wasn't all Goodson. Seems he fell out of favor with the coaching staff. I would imagine he wants more than anything to prove the coaches wrong.

I hope he becomes the steal of the draft.

Go Panthers

Yes, he was recruited by the former regime and fell out of favor when former Packer Coach Mike Sherman took over at A&M.

Yea... depends on how we utilize all that talent to become the best offense out there

Fox dont got the mentality that you win no matter what, even if it means putting up 50+ on the score boards instead of a defensive battle. Only a lil problem with us is that we score tooo quick lol, so the defense regardless stays out there

You do know that the Panthers had the 7th best offense in the league last year, don't you? I promise you that John Fox won't be afraid to use Goodson, if he's really that good.

he's tremendously versatile and it'll pay dividends. He'd be a fantastic #2 to whichever of our backs we had, if we only had one.

But we have two, and we barely had enough carries for both. We didn't throw to our backs that much; we didn't throw to the slot that much. He's having to learn a new league, new offense, apparently having to learn the receiver role, and learning how to return kicks after an abscence from doing so in college. So, he'll probably light it up in preseason and will be used sparingly during the year unless something bad happens.

I don't see him having a huge difference in the offense otherwise - he does nothing exceptionally that our other two can't, other than his slight build working to his advantage split as a receiver.

That's not a great sign.

I have followed him since he signed with A&M out of Palestine High School. This is a typical Heisman clip of great runs, but the fact is that he was underwhelming as college player and such occurances were few and far between.

The expectations on the Board are probably going to prove to be a little too high.

Why would you say he played for Palestine high (the school Adrian Peterson went to) when he went to Klein Collins high school just north of Houston?

Just curious...it doesn't matter one way or the other.

If you look at our history we never have any rookie running backs or receivers who do anything their rookie year. And you are right Davidson hasn't used anyone in the slot, hasn't used our tight ends to catch very much or even opened up the offense. I don't have great hope we will this year but he does comes from a background in New England and Cleveland where they used the tight end and slot receiver more than we do. But I do think Goodson can be used in the kickoff game right away since that is easier to figure out than punt returning. I also see him as a role player on third down.

But my comment was more to the fact that if davidson would let loose the reigns and spread things out more, Goodson would be excellent catching short passes and gaining YAC. He will also be good insurance if Stewart or Williams go down. He could be a special player if we can figure out how to use him.

In prior years, I might have agreed. But one thing I will say for Davidson: he is quite capable of adaptation.

His primary contributions will most likely be on special teams and as a slot receiver. Yes, barring injury he'll be the number three back behind two good leads, but you saw what the Giants did with a triple threat backfield last season (and I know John Fox saw it too).

I'm betting despite the current depth chart lineup he gets way more playing time than Goings did.

This kid is FAST. Probably won't see much field time in his rookie year though but I think he's a Panther great in the making. He can be groomed to be a threat in the passing game after Moose retires. He can also be groomed to be a top RB if DeAngelo or Stewart ever leaves (hard to pay two elite RB's).

A couple thoughts:

-His running style seems to be very Adrian Peterson-like. He runs very upright, and this might expose him more to injury later in his career.

-I'm not sure why everyone keeps harping on how we don't "open up the playbook" or "spread the field." Everyone is upset that Jake doesn't spread the ball around to his other receivers, to the TE's or the RB's. This is confusing to me because, as someone above noted, we were the #2 scoring offense in the league the second half of the season. We put the points on the board as good as anyone in the NFL. Does it really matter what it looks like, as long as we're getting in the endzone? I for one would be perfectly happy to see another rushing rampage from Double Trouble with Steve and Jake lighting it up in the air again this season.

Here's how I see this working out if he sees some downs: First few games, establish Goodson as a serious recieving threat out of the back field. Next few games after that, plow him through the tackles whenever he's on the field.

If that happens, then anytime he is on the field opposing defenses won't know what to expect. Double him up with either Stewart or Williams in the backfield and put Smith in posistion to go deep and you'll have defensive coordinators all over the league tearing their hair out trying to decide who is more important to stop.

If that doesn't happen, you still have a top ten offense to fall back on.

Downside, anyone?

The instinct of most Football fans is to have as many "Weapons" as possible. Have them all polished up and in working order as opposed to leaning on a couple of facets of the game exclusively. When you lean on a couple of facets of the game the other teams Defensive coordinator schemes to take them away and if they can do that like Arizona did in the playoffs (with our coaches help IMO) you're up a creek. Trying to develop a new facet of your offense when your back is against the wall is bad strategy. I want to see us adding in some new facets to our game early in the year. It should be less difficult with our running game to keep the Defenses honest/on their heels.

I know we dominate with those facets but you've got to have other cards to play because there is always something that will test you.

What if we had a stronger TE Corp and Goodson type guy in the slot last January? Maybe the coaches wouldn't have panicked and abandoned the gameplan so early.

I want to hear those announcers in Nov, Dec and Jan saying that old Cliche' "So many Weapons, So many Weapons"

Huddle Rule #37 You are only allowed to use facet once in a post. Anything above that constitutes a verbal warning.

Had it been 3 or God forbid 4 times, an evening with Engine9 and Cooter while blindfolded would have happened.

Carry on
