Nicks visiting the Colts tonight

I'm a huge fan of bringing on Nicks.  But, don't color me utterly disappointed if we weren't willing to over pay or his services. (whatever they maybe)

I'm hoping like hell we can sign him.  I haven't watched him much since he's been with the giants, but I'd seen almost every game he's played in since his senior year in high school.  I know what kind of player he CAN be..  but how much of our future can we really afford to gamble on his recent history?

Jets are doing the same for Geno.

Not sure a team has ever taken a QB highly and then just utterly neglected to build an offense around him like we have with Cam so far.  I really, REALLY hope Gettleman has a plan, but right now it's just plain ugly.

I said years ago, the Panthers have a Superman syndrome, where they literally think Newton is Superman. It is no doubt that our general fanbase has it, but the FO shares in the belief that Newton doesn't really need weapons or a line...Cam can just play Superman and will our offense to score enough points.

And like I said, it is fine for the team to focus on defense like it has...such an approach has led to improvements each of the last 3 years. Just don't expect our offense to score more than 13 points against mediocre defenses.

Our defense needs/should be pitching shutouts against mediocre offenses.

Long time Panther fan here, but new to the board.. I was curios as to what others thought our back-up plan could be if we do miss out on Nicks.. Would anyone be in favor of picking up a mid level receiver like James Jones or Santonio Holmes, and then selling out in the draft to find some way to pick up Sammy Watkins.. I know the likelihood of this happening is about 0.1%, but what would be the reaction to this scenario??

I definitely think a guy like Jones would be plan B.  And, I fully expect a WR to be taken with one of the first two picks.  But, I see no way of moving up for Watkins.

If we were to move up big, I would have to think it was for one of the top OT's.

Disagree, Gettleman clearly did not share this sentiment coming into 2013. He felt Newton needed to prove his worth. He also have stated the importance of having talented lineman.

Carolina has too many needs to move that far up in the draft.
