gettleman's statement on smith's release...

Recommended Posts

So was Jim Irsay and the Colts a bunch of assholes who don't wanna win when they let Peyton go?

I mean, I understand its a different situation, but one of the greatest QB's of all time being released when he was very public about his love for Indy probably hit their fans much harder than this.

I know it wasn't as bitter as this situation but still, give G-man a break.  Yall are talking about him like he banged your wife while staring into your eyes.  He had to let go of a great player because he felt it was the best thing to do for the organization.

No matter what, I stay loyal to the franchise of the Panthers, and the city of Charlotte.  I love Steve Smith, but I love the PANTHERS more, and nothing done in the offseason will change that.

They can think Seattle for not looking like idiots

Guest shitposting

Your post makes no sense. I'm the ONLY one who's made a sexist comment in this thread, Nancy.

I'm guessing you've posted this comment before, as I've seen it several times now.

Asshole or not, the decision seems hasty and too quick. We gave ourselves no way to benefit off it nor the player thats leaving. I would say that confirms that Gettlemagic fugged this up.

edit: and yes, I now consider him an asshole. . . and yes I think we should be allowed the slack in doing so at this point. . . and his letter didnt change any of that.

Like I have mentioned in another threa, DG is looking towards the long term future.  Here are Getts words after the move.   "As I’ve stated many times, all decisions I make will be in the long term best interest of the Carolina Panthers. Decisions, either popular or unpopular, have to be made for the greater good and it is imperative to take an unemotional global view." He is more focused on the long term than this upcoming season.  As he should be.  Good luck Smitty.  We love you and all you did.  May you hoist the Lombardi somewhere as long its not against us :)  He is the greatest Panther of all time.  PERIOD.

The funny thing is the statement says nothing. It doesn't explain why we just cut our best receiver without even asking him to take a pay cut.

"As I’ve stated many times, all decisions I make will be in the long term best interest of the Carolina Panthers. Decisions, either popular or unpopular, have to be made for the greater good and it is imperative to take an unemotional global view."

THAT IS NOT NOTHING--THAT IS SIMPLY WHAT SOME PEOPLE REFUSE TO UNDERSTAND.

I understand all the emotion.  Smitty brought that out in all of us.  He was a joy to watch in his prime.  But anyone who has followed him since he really came into his own in 2003 knew this day was coming and it was going to be sooner rather than later.  Smith knows this as well which is why he is taking it the way he is.  Gettleman gave him plenty of time to find another team and to play out the rest of his career elsewhere.

He was never going to play slot receiver for us because we don't use a slot receiver much of the time instead opting for  2 receivers and a tight end with 2 backs.  The teams that need a slot receiver all day typically are passing offenses which is where he is likely headed.  Who was going to use 7 million in cap on a receiver who would be on the field for less than 15 plays if he only played the slot?  He just didn't fit our offense if he can't play on the outside and we all know it if we think about it.

Smitty will go down as one of my all time favorite Panthers and I will wear his jersey this year regardless.  He will be missed but honestly not as much as many folks think he will be.

Smith's gone....get over it.  If we are going into transition again....we did him a favor.

I still think we'll be a decent team next year.

Gettleman really is getting left out to dry by the fans....considering he didn't get us into this mess to begin with.  Someone has to fix it.....the crap isn't gonna fix itself.

We've have a great young core.  We still have the best Dline in football.  We were 3-0 without Smith last year...we need some players....but we can win without him.  Regarding his letter to the fans.....there's no reason to think he's not telling the truth.  If anything he's been greatly criticized for being too truthful at any point in time.
