Collins to Bucs

Allow me to ramble about the Bucs for a minute.  It is therapeutic,.

Is it just me, or does it seem like Tampa Bay makes a huge splash in free agency every year?

I think Lovie Smith is a great person (from what I hear and see on TV) but I am not sure that he is that great of a coach.  He was fired after a 10-win season.  Who does that?

He had a pretty awesome defense and a good RB and QB.  A suspect line and below average WRs.  He coached in the NFC North when Green Bay and Minnesota were playoff teams.  Rivera won with the same formula and was coach of the year.  Lovie was un-Lovie to the Chicago fans and front office, apparently.  He wins 10 games and is fired and is not hired by any team last year--Chud found work!!  Somebody knows something.

This could be another bad hire.  How smart was it to announce that McCown is your starter when Glennon showed promise?  Is this a smart man?

Man players love that beach.

What do we have? mmmm, nothing. Family first team? not really, not anymore, now its business. You think players arent watching how we're treating our players right now? So what are we offering? 12-4? Big deal, refs slapped us in the face anyways. Im sure players noticed that. Dont go play in Carolina. . .  you wont get any calls by the refs, you'll get treated like poo by the team, and they have no beaches.

oh and the media paints our owner to be Satan.

Lovie didn't take a job because he was still earning money from the Bears last year. Taking a new gig somewhere offsets the money the Bears had to pay him. Essentially he would be coaching for free. He sat out a year, banked, got well rested (something you lack while coaching), and probably spent a lot of time with family.

I get your other stuff, but sitting out last year for him is a no brainer

Don't worry guys.... At least we tendered this guy:

In fairness, he has improved a bit each year.  Not too worried unless he is moved to the left siide.

I am not as "gloom and doom" as the rest about the OL, depending on how well SIlatolu recovers from injury.

Here is how I see it:

LT:  Please sign a free agent and draft a T early; I cannot help but think that we could have a rookie LT in 2014.  Not the end of the world if the other 4 positions are set.

LG: Silatolu and maybe Wharton will back him on reasonable deal

C: Kalil is a stud and a smart C, but who is his backup now that they all retired?  A late rounder like UNC's Bodine would be nice.

RG:  They will do what we have often done here--have an old fashioned dog fight for the job. Scott was re-signed (no), Nobody knows what Kugbila can do, and even though he is listed as a T, my darkhorse here is Travis Bond.  Long arms and can push the pile.  Nate Chandler and Garry Williams are probably the front runners for the job right now. Someone will emerge from these 5.

RT:  This will probably be Bell, but a rookie to groom for LT is my preference.  Do not dismiss Bond here either.

So, we need 2 tackles and a backup C.  A RG would be nice, but I don't see us adding one.  I hope SIlatolu is healthy and can perform when he is not between 2 pro bowlers.

And played RT as the #8 overall pick.

And that was because there was a void at RT. Both positions are the same with the exception that a LT has to be quicker. Fox was also notorious for not starting Rookies and he allowed one on his line.

Damn, PF, just trying to find a ray of sunshine on an otherwise overcast day.  :ss:

I would have done the same thing if I were Lovie.
