Smith gone due to being outspoken about Shula

I wouldn't doubt it.

Cam respects Steve's career but I bet he was getting tired of a 35yo with diminished skills riding his ass & demanding the ball.

Also, Smith is a married 35yo with his 4th kid on the way. Cam is 25yo & single with no kids. I doubt they were ever really close.

Of course if there was some sort of strain, I wonder if that's a good or bad sign about Cam.  I mean we all know about him sulking when things went wrong his first couple of years (of course overblown in the media).  Steve was probably the only player in the locker room and on the sidelines to get in his face.  Now there is no one to do that.  This year will be telling concerning Cam's confidence and leadership.

Nobody could ever accuse me of being on the Shula fan list.

But players need to shut up and play and let the coaches coach.  Don't want to play for the coach your CONTRACTUALLY OBLIGATED to play for?

RETIRE.

Or, I guess, just be a bitch about it in the locker room.

When Chud was here during his second year, I definitely wanted the players to revolt.

I'm no fan of Shula.  He failed at Alabama miserably, and is very conservative and predictable as OC for us.  I mean do we have any other playcall for 3rd and 1 besides hand it to Tolbert?  The only reason he is OC is because Cam is comfortable with him.

With that being said, there wasn't much to work with as far as personel.  Steve Smith was a step slower and when he got injured everyone in the stadium could sense our offense wasn't going anywhere.  Cam had little protection and nobody on the outside that was going to do anything above average.  He was also handing off to two overpaid RBs that are B- at best.

So, I'm willing to give the offensive staff a little time to improve the personel before I write off Shula.  But, he has a lot to prove.

We went through a stretch last year where we threw the ball on 1st down, which put us ahead of the chains. We converted quite a few 2nd downs, and a poo ton of 3rds. We scored in the red zone, seemed to score on almost every possession, and we were winning. Then it all went away. The offense, not the winning. I want my offense back.

Maybe that is the plan. Take Cam's security blanket and see if he can thrive> Find out once and for all whether you want to pay Cam 75mil? Answer the question as to Cam's leadership once and for all before you totally invest in him?

Hellz, I have no idea.

Yet you've had 13 years to form a more accurate conclusion but choose to jump to conclusions on a guy you've only seen for 1 year who never have access to because he's works behind closed doors.

Whatever is the truth, you wouldn't know with that logic.

just the same as guys who said shula sucked in tampa thats why he would suck here................

i choose seniority

and what is your logic?

my logic had more to do with thinking your comment was about Gettleman and Smitty's bad blood and nothing to do with Shula..  wrong thread, there's only 50 of the same variations floating around.

All of this would be understandable if we had a receiving corps. You were that desperate to get rid of this man to the point that we have absolutely NO receivers. Any receiver on our roster has 0 catches. ZERO. They would be #2's in an arena league.

So Gettleman believes Smith has lost a step to where he's no longer effective...

Well I believe that if it wasn't for Smith, Gettleman's team would have been blown out on the scoreboard in the NFC Divisional round.

i actually believe both sides of the story. Smith should have been retained and convinced to retire next season for the reasons outlined by the team. however, Shula has alot of proving to do. and it starts by pressuring Gman to give him some weapons to work with next year.

I am ready to move on. It is a shame it ended this way but it did.

Moving forward my biggest concern of the day are:

How do we get a LT ? I do not see a starting LT falling to us in the draft nor do I see one on our team or FA unless Penn does not sign with the Raiders?

When will Hardys long term deal get done? I am not a fan of just renting him for 1 year for 13 million at the cost of be paralyzed by the cap.

Same here.

I think we can add a couple of mid tier WR's and be OK by adding one in the first or second round.

LT is a HUGE problem in my eyes

So Steve was fired for being right? Sounds like another day in America.

Your boss may or may not actually be bad at his job.

Regardless, if you actively seek to undermine him, you get fired.

If the stuff being said by these guys is true, that's what happened.

I have quit arguing this point because many of you will never be convinced otherwise but our offense wasn't bad last season. It can get better for sure but we were pretty efficient and scored TDs on a fairly high % of our possessions and had a very low turnover rate.
