I would love Jones. He produced when he was often the 3rd option. He flat out scores in the red zone which is what we need.

Sounds like we were looking for trade partners, so we told Nicks and LaFell to wait to see if we got one.

So since there is no trade, Smitty will be released and we will now begin negotiations with Nicks and find out what LaFell wants. Also might be interested in James Jones as another WR.

I think the fall back plan(No Nicks/Jones) is Rice.

With this being his best opportunity for a big payday, I don't know.  We'll see.  With his health taken into account, that may be about right

It would be exciting to get someone with some real #1 talent and experience.  My hope is that Nicks still has the ability.  Hopefully the deal gets done.  I think at worst, Nicks could use year one as leverage for a better contract next year.  Though a hold out with Gettleman doesn't seem like a good idea.

 

As far as LaFell, I'd be fine bringing him back for the right price.  He was solid, not spectacular.  But by comparison, he was pretty good in the context of our passing game last year.  He shouldn't be a #2, but he's a good depth, rotational guy.

Not a bad idea at all now that Smith is gone. The thought of pairing a WR similar in build to Smith was not a good idea before, but now, guys like Sanders n FA and Cooks in the draft are more palatable. Sanders is a very solid fringe #1 WR and should be 1A to Nicks as the top FA WR along with Decker, but he's already signed.
