Article states and other tweets have stated that this is being done for Cam and others.  Rivera made the same type statement that Gman made while he was in Indy.

Just think how you'd feel next year this time if Smith got even slower and maybe got 450 yds and 2 TD's and hampered the teams ability to sign Cam.

I dont know if Smith was a distraction as much a he was a cause for qbs to develop tunnel vision.  It happened to Delhomme and its happening to Cam.  Smith demands the ball in such a way coaches have to alter their game plan to accommodate him.  Steve Smith is no longer able to beat the double teams and the tunnel vision is crippling the offense.  How many times did Cam throw into double/triple coverage to force the ball to smith.  This is why the carolina offense suffers.  Cam needs to be able to go through his progressions to find the open target, not just try to find a way to get smith the ball.  Removing smith from the equation will force Cam to become a better qb and see the field as he should and not just trying to find Smith.  End of Line.

 

What is crippling our offense is not tunnel vision. It is lack of offensive weapons. Does tunnel vision lead to Cam being our leading rusher?

I think 2 factors are big here: (1) Gross may have kept Smitty in check and (2) Maybe it's Rivera who wanted more control back over his locker room knowing Gross wouldn't be there next season.

This whole Smith situation is kinda like when I had to break up with a GF when I moved country. She was great, but I had to move forward and it meant getting rid of Steve Smi.. I mean, my GF. it sucks but you gotta do what you gotta do. It just makes sense regardless how much you love them.

If Steve smith is so valuable...then why is nobody willing to trade for him. I mean damn, Blaine Gabart got traded. No....nobody wants to trade for Steve. He's not worth his contract at this point in his career. Will he play again? Yes...or at least he will be given the opportunity. Good luck to him...thanks for the memories.
