Okay this isn't an FBI investigation... I mean I support Gettleman and hope he gets it right but I'm just not happy with the way he handled Smitty. You can make signings right now that aren't big names. Just seems like he'd try to fill some of these holes

I think Gettleman is a fine GM. I just think

1. He complete fugged up this whole Smith situation

2. He was over-appreciated by fans this past year. He made two good signings with Mitchell and Ginn, which is why I said he's a fine GM. He had a good draft, but who in their right mind would not of taken Star with that pick in the panthers spot?

The day Mitchell was signed last year? March 20th or so

The day Blackburn signed? March 27th

 

The day Wharton came back last year? Late August

What's the rush? Its not like training camp is tomarrow. Did he not do the same thing last season? This guy knows talent, and he doesn't have to overpay in the first few days of FA to get what he needs.

There's only one issue in my book this offseason beyond the Smith situation: if it's really about us being cap strapped, why haven't we given Godfrey the June 1st designation release?

 

Until they need the money they don't really have to. If they brought on a string of people, you'd see them signed and Godfrey released as the counter move. Could also still want him; perhaps TD style and hold off some of that dead money. That fills a roster spot and gives you about the same savings as a June 1 cut. 

 

It's not like they intend to pay him his $5M salary, so don't sweat that move.
